 |

Needed petrol, local petrol BP station used a million times in the past in both car and bike, it was announced over the PA system 'Please turn you're bike around so we can see the plate'.
I'm queuing in the same direction as everybody else in a semi busy station.
A bloke (customer) come over and laughs and shakes his head at the stupidity of the request.
Needing petrol I humour them, pull forward to go to another pump only to have my one taken and every other one busy.
Queue me shaking my head and hand at the till bird and riding off to use another station*.
What do they expect, to queue for petrol in the opposite direction to everyone else if the pumps are busy or to ride around slowly and tightly in a diesel ridden forecourt?
Grrrr!
* There are shed loads of BP stations and the next one only 6 miles down the road had no problem like the million times I've filled up before. ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

Just ignore them, and pretend you can't hear until they get bored and turn the pump on? ____________________

Can never understand why they use camera's facing the front of the car.
They leave their lights on and it whites out the pic....
Use ones that look at the back of the car and they can't. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

Fortunately I've never had the 'remove your lid' one yet (probably because I mostly wear an open-face), but I had one a while ago (think it was the Sainsbury's on the Marsh Mills roundabout in Plymouth) that demanded I put the nozzle into the tank before they'd switch the pump on. I wasn't especially bothered, just rather puzzled as I can't think of any reason for the demand and it's not something I've come across before or since ____________________ Chris

That one makes sense though, because to let them know at the desk you want to use it, you squeeze the trigger thing so surely in your tank is the safest way to do this, rather than people waiting around, pressing it and it going everywhere, apart from it being ludicrously expensive to you, it is dangerous whereas removing your helmet is a stupid rule.
I always remove my helmet though, just always do, as soon as I get off. Give my head some fresh petroly air |

Hmm that's not how the pumps at my local Tesco station works, they get notified when you remove which one you want from the pump.
I mean, I usually put it straight into the tank anyway but I wait until it clicks on before pulling the trigger.
Never been asked to do anything silly by forecourt staff yet thankfully |

That's insane I'm quite surprised the fire was so contained, although I guess there isn't enough oxygen and space in a full fuel tank for proper combustion and the same with the nozzle that wasn't pumping fuel any more. If that station was busier though, there would be way more flammable fumes around and it could truly have been devastating. ____________________ will never give up his CG. i always have to get my pump authorised its a pain i was standing there for several minutes the other day before they actually acknowledged i wished to procure some motion lotion.
i have had my pump shut down for trying to fill my bike, a pair of 5l petrol cans (secured in my topbox) and a friends bike in one go, went in to see what was going on, and was told that it wasn't allowed, so i paid my £4.33 for 1 cans fuel and as i was walking out the cashier says 'if you'd like to fill your cans up you'll have to go to the back of the line' so i said id rather go the extra distance to tesco to dispense with the bother of having to make 4 transactions. she didnt look happy, but in all fairness i wasnt doing anyone any harm, infact i was ready to spend nearly £30 if she hadnt kicked up a fuss ____________________ '84 TS50X, '91 TZR125, '89 CBR400RR, '91 VFR400R NC30, '98 R1

Fuel stations near me have always been fine with me keeping my lid on.
Now in the van I monoplise two pumps if it's quiet and pump unleaded and diesel(Diesel for the van, unleaded into a jerry can) then pay for them together. No problems at all. ____________________ My Flickr |

I too have never had any problems with leaving my lid on, fuelling a jerry can or when we go out in a big group several bikes being fuelled from one pump in one transaction. I think it really depends on the individuals involved more than the Petrol Company.
I did once have an attendant make a comment about seeing my face but I just smiled, paid my cash and gave him my biggest cheeriest 'thank you'!! To be fair we were out on a ride and I think the others had removed their lids but I hate keep taking mine on and off as my hair is long and it's always a bit of a faff making sure it's all tucked away properly - had a loose bit tickling my face last night and it's really very irritating and distracting!! ____________________ 'The core of a man's spirit comes from new experiences'
