rode my h1 for a month with no probs but in the last week there was a belt squeal like cars do when a belt's wet or slipping. it stopped but the next day it died on the way home. flat battery. when i brought the old battery over in the car and tried that it rode home no probs unless the lights were on. bit hard for my mate who rode it for me in the dark. checked it running with a voltmeter and no obvious rise in charge rate when the revs are up. hoping it's not the belt gone as it's looking like being a pain in the ass to fix. possible seized alternator? it had been standing for 2 years before i got her. hoping it's something simple but offering it out in the hope someone's had the same prob and can help. cheers.

Sounds like the flywheel may have come loose, or possibly one of the coils on the alternator. Have you checked?

Hi

Presume the ZXR has the same belt driven alternator setup as the GPX (engines are closely related). It is a very rare setup on bikes.

That is squealed and then stopped squealing followed by no charging suggests the belt might well have snapped. Possible that the alternator has seized as well.

Afraid all you can really do is physically look at the belt.

All the best

Keith

poo. had hoped for something simpler. in the haynes i gotta remove the clutch slave cylinder and upper engine mount then use a special tool to remove the alternator. big job.
