Took a spur of the moment trip to the_godfather off heres house last night, he woke me up at 10 in the morning to tell me that my bike had been nicked, great!

Anyway, after a quick trip round the block to check the obvious places we gave the police a shout, it turns out they caught two 15 year old shits riding it at 3am last night, by the time they had turned the car around the kids had ditched it and hidden in a garden, they were arrested, the police have the bike in forensics now, because they didn't actually catch the kids on the bike they need to find prints or something on it, the only damage I know about so far is that the plate was ripped off, I'm guessing since it was dumped it will be dented and scratched and also the ignition will be wrecked, just got to wait and see. For the time being I am stuck 120 miles from home, in Loughborough, I'm going to miss a few days work until I get a bike sorted, so hopefully the insurance will cover loss of earnings.

Anyway, that's all just thought id let you all know.

So fucking angry! Got told today that the police can't convict the kids because there is a lack of evidence! They saw them riding the god damn bike what more do they want???

My experience exactly last time I had a bike stolen. Except in my case the copper caught him in the act of filling it with petrol and had CCTV footage of him riding it into the filling station.

Makes you wonder what exactly, short of a witnessed confession signed in their own blood, would be considered sufficient evidence.

It's the shite law that gives them the excuse of not knowing it was stolen and having to actually see them take the vehicle.
Sometimes it's shite, sometimes it's for the good, the victim doesn't come into it at all, just justice for the crim's.

I can think of a few things they could do:
Failure to produce V5 when requested by a police officer (not their bike so can't produce it).
Driving otherwise than within the terms of licence (15, no licence).
Driving without insurance.
Illegal carrying of a pillion (a seperate offence to the licence one).
Fixed penalty for riding without a helmet (and the pillion).
Being in posession of stolen property.

Because I'm sure as fuck that if I got caught riding uninsured on someone elses bike that I didn't have permission to ride, I'd be looking at 9 points, a four figure fine and probably a short ban.

There we go then. Next time I'm stopped by the police, I'll just tell them I haven't got a licence and that I found the bike lying in the road with the keys in.

The only difference is that you are able to afford fines and a prison term would hurt you.

These little fucks don't give a shite and the law knows it. It is sad that they do get away with all the crap that you or I would be strung up for. One law for those who can pay, one for those who pretend they can't.

Maybe, but it is pretty much unrideble, the electrics are messed to hell, the ignition can be turned by any key and I have no speedo where they messed up breaking the stearing lock.

All in all the bike is fucked!

Looking to take out a loan in the new year and get a decent bike sorted, thinking RF900 at the moment.

We shall see

Thats the difference between scrotes and yourself, you have things to lose, hence you are whats the word more mindful of such consquences. Scrotes might get 10 points on their non existent licence or a ban on their non existent licence. But they have no money to be fined of or licences to be revoked and nor will the courts stick them in prison.

The police are effectively a corporation they are not going to be doing things that makes a loss, hence fining you and sticking it up your jacksie would make them a handsome profit throwing the book at these people = loss.

Exactly why I never use a steering lock.

They are no deterrant, every chav knows how to break one and you just land up with more damage having being done in the case of the bike turning up again.

My bikes are in a lockup and chained together. I leave the keys in the ignition.

If they've broken into the garage and cut the chain, the bikes are gone, not having a key isn't going to change that. Leaving the keys in the ignition means if they turn up again, I don't have to fix chopped wiring, replace the ignition barrel, steering stem, handlebars and broken switchgear.
