Just cleaned bike and given it its coat of ACF50. Given first big freeze and amount of salt on roads now. Smells like hell for a bit but on the plus side wont clean it now til March at earliest.

Aye! Gonna do mine in a min (and wash off the last couple of months worth of ACF50). Rode the bike for the first time in a week today (because of all the ice on my road) and noticed a massive amount of surface rust on the chain! Shocked Probably due to the low temperatures and moisture in the air, gonna clean it off right away. Lots of crystallised deposits all over the bike from salt etc. I lost a bolt from the mudguard a little while ago due to corrosion (head snapped off in the socket when I went to undo it, so got a nice stud extraction to do on the fork!), so I've been putting ACF50 on bolts/fastners before I screw them back in. Ahh winter! Thumbs Up

Best to use copper slip or similar on non-essential bolts I would have thought.

I routinely re-apply ACF50 throughout the winter after cleaning the bike. If you're experiencing continual corrosion and rust, you're not applying it properly/using it regularly.

It also shouldn't be considered a miracle cure to winter corrosion. From my experience, the best solution to keeping a bike smart through winter is by regularly rinsing off the salt after a ride (once the bike's cooled down) using cold water.

Why when it's cooled down?

I have just been hosing it down with cold water as soon as I get in.

I take it the rapid temerture difference could do some damage?

This.

If putting a bolt back in that is in the line of fire of water and muck, I always put some copper grease on it.

Also, every bike I buy, I put copper grease on the exhaust manifold nuts so I know I'll never have any issues.
