Ok, next installment in my quest for the perfect bike.

I was/still am looking at KTM 400EXCF.
Not actually had a go on one (despite Tatters offering), but I figure it cant be any more 'harsh' than my WR400, and certainly lighter Thumbs Up

Then I got to thinking (dangerous), "what about a 250 4stroke "??
And have seen a nice looking KTM 250 EXCF Smile

Questions:
1) that will be enough power wont it ?
2) wont it be lighter to ride also ?

In all seriousness, the more questions you ask about this whole new bike malarky, the more a stroker seems to be what you're after Laughing

It's only a matter of time.

Get a 400 cc 4 stroke - all the midrange you could want, light weight, etc Smile.

I've mentioned the '300cc' bikes before and I still think it's something worth considering.
I haven't decently abused a modern revvy 250cc, but they don't sound that great to be honest.
Interesting to note that a KTM350 motocross bike was doing very well in the 450cc class this weekend. I would guess it was based on a 250cc (looked to have the twin exhausts which I don't think are used on the bigger bikes) so that it's got the light weight and there's only so much power you can make use of in the mud (thus the demise of the 500cc 2 stroke class Crying or Very sad ).

I think some test rides on big and small, 2 and 4 stroke are in order.
Was some discussion about a gingers day to see how our new steed handles the dirt, could try and make a general 'play' day of it?
