Aprillia RS125 not starting.. :( Please help

Hi, recently got my Aprillia RS125 2004, and when I got it, it seemed allright, and started. Now, its started to not want to do anything. Charged the battery, still nothing, then tried it with choke on, and throttle, nothing still.. Is there any other option apart from bump starting?

Yes, It has been very cold over the past week or so, but all of the things to try even when it's cold don't work.. Sad

So i wondered if it was something inside the bike.

When bump starting, it seems to run ok, then when the engine gets warmer, it starts fine on the electric starter.. Just I need to get it to start when it's cold, without having to push it up the road, and freeroll down the hill to bump start every morning.. Sad

Any ideas will be a big hand.

Hello mate, I had the same problem with mine, i'm not that good when it comes to engins but I had someone look at mine and aparently it was an electricle problem. I could be wrong but i'm sure it was something to do with a plug. Hope this may help you some how. A good friend of mine is really good with bikes, i'll ask him for you tomorrow and post a comment on here for you, or email ya. Good luck with it mate. I know how frustrating it can be.

Check the spark plug isn't soiled.

Sounds to me like a carburation problem, too much or too little fuel when cold, most likely too much, sounds flooded.

May be wrong through. Smile

Hi

Does sound like the plug is on its last legs. If replacing that doesn't work then check the gap between the ignition pickup and the flywheel.

How would I get to the spark plug? And what I don't understand, is when it's warmer, it seems to start exceptionally well with the electric start... So If it is the spark plug, shouldn't it have troubles when starting it then?

It could possibly be that it has been very very cold recently... -8C down here in Devon.. which is really cold.

I was thinking of getting one of those heated covers, do you think that will help?

Hi

Colder it is the slower it probably cranks over (battery being likely weaker).

However plugs on 2 strokes are pretty much a regular consumeable item. Take the seat off, lift the tank and you will find the plug cap going onto the plug.

Well, it had a service in november 09, and the sparkplugs were changed. That's the last time it was on the road, seeing as the bike was classed SORN after that.

At the moment I will take it that it is cold, but if it persists when it gets warmer, I will assume then it must be the spark plugs. Will buy some in the next couple of days, just incase. Smile
