Having just fallen victim to the cold weather sending my ( >2 year old) battery into a slumber, I was wondering about getting an Oxford Solariser to chuck up onto the garage roof - it's in a block so no power otherwise it'd be on the Optimate.
The bloke at the independant bike shop told me they're a waste of time. He says as I've got an alarm fitted to the bike, the charger would not be sufficient to keep the battery fully charged, all it would achieve is to slow the rate of discharge.

Do any of you have one of these for winter use, and do you think it's worth the £40 cost? I've taken the battery off and bought it home where it's on an Optimate in the shed, but I'd rather not have to faff about removing and refitting the battery each time there's a decent enough day to go for a blat.

Crap IMO won't put out enough juice to charge a PP9 at 137ma.

Best bet is buy a decent battery, false economy for anything else. I have a 9year old Hawker Odyssey on my 1150 and it starts first time every time even if left for weeks without starting. The bike also has an alarm fitted and turned on.
