That's where the bike used to be before it rusted and the wind blew the remains away.

Then there is overpricing Ariel I do know the prices of Ariels and would pay £3200 for this bike (insurance £4000). I asked the owner if he would take £2800 and he told me to f**k off.

Overpricing yeah, they are asking in some ads around £4500 for bikes that were £7000 six years ago, having a laugh.

Why do people think bikes from dealers are better than private sale? My mate bought a 58 Red Hunter from a dealer, I rebuilt the gearbox, the mag has been replaced as has the carb and now I have the top end in bits sorting valves, guides rings and small end.

With a handful of notable exceptions, dealers are like breakers. Money grabbing pond life scum who should not be trusted under any circumstances.

I have never bought a bike from a dealer and never would. They are virtually all despicable parasites.

There is at least one good dealer near me. An independent who's been in the business for years. I've had one bike from him in the past and would buy from him again.

There are one or two good ones out there. But they're as hard to come by as honest estate agents.

I dont really know what you are going on about in relation to the pics on the harley add...

But in his description he keeps going on about how this model is faster than other harleys? Who cares? who buys a harley for speed?, I should ask a question if an old GS500 is faster than it...

Do it! Laughing I want to see his reaction. The reason a dealer like that wouldn't accept a normal price is that he knows that eventually someone will buy from him at that stupid mark up and so he gets a massive profit in the long run. After paying dealer prices for my current bike I wouldn't make the same mistake again.

Hmmm, I'd love to have a GS500.

But Richard Hammond just bought one so they must be cool! If I had more money than sense I probably would too.

The Hamster's obviously having a mid life crisis. Middle aged men inexplicably think buying a Harley will make them a) cool, b) a biker and c) attractive to the opposite sex Laughing

He was already a biker and therefore by implication cool - no idea why he had to go and ruin it all!

it was because his wife bought one, and on his fireblade he left her behind and on the GS he rode over the top of her. so he got one to ride with her. (Pharaphrased from an interview a few years ago.)

Wow. This must be what true love is, sacrificing that much for the sake of his wife.

It's not that much sacrifice. You make it sound really bad. At least he is still riding.

I'm just kind of shocked I apparently have to point out when I'm being sarcastic more than I thought Confused

If the only bike I could have was a harley I think I'd probably love it and enjoy riding it.

Despite the stick they get, Harleys are actually lovely bikes to ride. I would certainly rather have one than a plastic fantastic, because you can at least use the power and the massive grunt is great fun. I would probably have owned one by now but for the silly money they seem to always go for. Quite fancy one of the (relatively) little 883 Sportsters.

Did I just say that out loud? Embarassed Wink
