Even though you've got a full license and a beast in the garage. Thought it'd make a difference to learners discussing what 600-1000cc beast they're going to get once they've passed their test.

Stipulations: Must be <125cc, can be derestricted (since quite frankly hardly any learners obey the rule so why would a full license holder?), can not have previously owned one.

Mine would be
NSR125
RG125
Cagiva Planet/Raptor
for 2-stroke fun and games.

CG125
because everyone raves about them.

I don't even have a full licence and I would love to have a proper de-restricted NSR125 to have a blast on.

And the CG is definitely something to be raved about. It's the lack of power and constant gear changing etc that makes it so fun to ride as you're always having to work a lot to get everything out of it - and then after all of that it's only just about quick enough to be safe and make reasonable progress on many roads. Oh, and you still get to do the country twisties at a reasonable and fun speed, you just have a lot less traction than a big bike (I would imagine) but the advantages of that are their amazingness in conditions with less traction like wet or icy weirdly enough (impossible to apply too much throttle or brakes). 125's are quite pointless on motorways though.

Ah CG how I love thee....

DT125R great on the road and even better when you come to gravel tracks.

I always keep my eyes open for a cheap battered dt to do up.

CG 125s had a go on one of these a month back and what it lacked in speed it made up for in the giggle factor. Clinging on to it and throwing it round the roundabouts Thinking these bycycle tyres are never gonna hold.
And racing 2 cgs is an absolute blast hugging the tank down the straights trying to get that .01mph more than the other guy:mrgreen:

Well, I'm perfect for this thread because I do ride a 125 Very Happy

https://premium1.uploadit.org/LewisDocherty//KnockWhiteUpturned.jpg

To be honest though, I'm soon ditching the 125 lump for a bonneville engine as soon as I find a decent example - Or even a Yamaha XS400 engine.

Stipulations.... Fail!

I'm not sure any of the 125s I've had/ridden I'd have again really anyway.
A KTM125EXC with supermoto wheels would be interesting.
Also, some kind of electric push-bike restrictable to whatever kw, maybe.
[edit]Maybe a cheap indian Honda or something, which can be got for for well under £1k in india.[/edit]

Even the sportier versions (like the RS125) still seem a bit soggier than they could be as stock.

I currently ride a 125, but I'd love to have a Hyosung GT125R, ever since I had a go on one, I've fallen in love with it, it was a shocker of a bike for a 125. If I had loads of money, I'd get a nice 09 RS125 and spend loads on quality oils to keep her running good Thumbs Up

I'd love to have a DTR to, for a winter hack and maybe some off road fun Very Happy

A 1984 Honda XL125, I had the Suzuki DR125 at the time which I thought was cooler, but still wouldn't mind the XL in my garage now.

That must be one of the gheyest motorcycles on the planet Sick

Still each to their own!! Wink

As for the question, I'd have one of the stroker 125 sports bikes (Aprilia, Cagiva, Suzuki) - de restricted obviously - and a trail 125. No real preference of particular choice, any of them would do!! Thumbs Up

I also like the look of the Yam R125, but I bet it sounds sh1te!! Thumbs Down

I have put the odd silly eBay bid on stroker 125s in the hope I'd get lucky (don't want one enough to put a serious bid in/on).

Mr Kettle!

Wink
They do sound fairly meety in a pit-bike kinda way with a loud exhaust, but doesn't stop their looks or indeed the entire 'concept' being rather 'ghey'.

I wouldn't mind trying a GT125 sometime to see if there is more to them than the facts suggest - but no way I'd buy one.

Hey, the R125 shares the same lines as an R1/6 ... and I like that styling.

I think if they put a screaming 250cc IL4 motor in it, then it'd more desirable though ...

You telling me you wouldn't want a go on one* if it has a 19,000rpm short stroke IL4 in it!?!? Wink

*and listen to one

Hi

Have a few 125s, but would like to add a Mito and a Gilera SP01 to the collection. Italian market TZR125 would be good as well.

All the best

While the R6 does look a bit silly, definitely not as silly as the rather out of proportion 125.

I've ridden a CBR250 a bit - with a race can on they do sound quite good, but no where near the sparkle of a more power-bandy 2 stroke like the RS250 to my mind. If we were actually talking a modern engine using modern technology, then it could be more interesting - but modern prices less so.

Just something you can destroy and not worry about.

Yes, talking about a down-scaled R6 motor (perhaps pneumatic valves like motoGP to get the RPM??), not dredging a FZR250 motor back from the 80s/90s and giving it a coat of paint ...

A 2-stroke 250 - never ridden one ... back in the 90s, I used to drool over the thought of riding an RGV250 (the one with the under over shotgun pipes (FU?)). Cool
