It is helpful being so close tbh , I've been leaning out the bedroom all evening taking bits off Laughing

Nothing major but it's something , taking the old graphics off so i can at least see what I'll look like before i strip it Thumbs Up

Surely I'm not the only one wondering how you got it up the stairs? So many options! Did you do it trials megastar style and just ride it up? Did you take the lift? A complicated system of wires and pulleys ala Heath Robinson?

Looks like a fun project, I love DT's!

Laughing It wasn't easy man , my cousin and I had to carry it up the staircase and it was ridiculously difficult . It wouldn't fit going round corners so we had to lift the front end high , all the way up Laughing Crying or Very sad Nightmare Thumbs Down

Lift was too small and the crane I hired was taking too long Laughing

Took about an hour , lots of swearing and lots of cuts . Going back down should be fun though Laughing

OK took most the graphics off last night and will start stripping it down today . Bloody screw on the front plastic is rounded off so I'm trying to find a way around that right now ... oh and off to work Embarassed

I still think it looks very tidy for a 93 off road bike, and for a model with a reputation for being stolen and trashed by scumbags.

I think your project should go nice and smoothly if there are no nasty suprises or mechanical issues to worry about. Did it run ok when you collected it, or have you not tried to so far?

Paint and new or re-painted plastics will have this bike looking very smart IMO. It's a bonus having that nice shiney DEP pipe on it as well, as that will clean up like new very easily id say.

Nice work area being so close to the warmth of the house. At least you can nip in and out quickly to get a bit done, and then get warm again. If i were you i'd look into getting some kind of tent or cover for the balcony, as it's much nicer to work in the dry and not have all your stuff and tools getting soaked outside. Maybe you can get a garden shed up there or similar to assemble and keep the bike and parts in while your working on it. A nice shed with a heater and a temporary power feed to to it would make it alot more fun to work on!

Tell me about it man , just trying to imagine running up and down the stairs all day Shocked Laughing

Bike really wasnt that bad considering how old it is . Everything just needs a good clean and bolts replacing .

I'd like to get the forks and rear shock recond and maybe the wheels . Didnt start it up mate , needs all liquids changed .

Got a bit more done this evening , stripped lots more . A couple bolts broke but I'll drill them out .

And at the end of day 2 here's how it's sitting , not sure what I'll get done tomorrow but I'm currently polishing up the DEP pipe as it's too cold to keep working .

Last thing that frame could do with is more rust Thumbs Up

£450 delivered to my door mate Very Happy

OK TBH i know the score , if I'd searched and searched I'm sure i could of found something cheaper . But please keep in mind that these bikes are rare in this area and dont pop up too often .

I'm happy with what I've paid and the more i strip away , the more i note that i don't have to replace bits , just clean them . It's been very well taken care of and the added bonus is i know the owner from another forum .

All in all very happy with the purchase and project . Not come up on anything too difficult yet but I'm sure i will .

Here's the paperwork that came with the bike . It was mostly used onroad and well taken care of . It's just really old and needed a revamp Thumbs Up

I wouldn't have thought of it either mate , but a friend of mine gave me these cans and i thought I'd give them a try . Used them on the car exhaust and it came up a treat Thumbs Up ... so give it a try

Whereabouts do you live? I'd love to hear the phone conversation when you ring up to insure it...

"So is it kept in a garage overnight?"

"Erm, no. It's on the balcony of my 6th floor flat..."

"Oh right...."

That's good progress for 3 days though, keep it up Thumbs Up

Laughing London mate , and I'm betting they'd still find a reason to see that as a drawback hence higher charges Thumbs Down Thumbs Up

I've been pondering frame painting options all day . Do i try myself or get a bodyshop to do it . I know myself with paint cans and i know I'll more than likely spend more on paint than the shop would charge to do the work Embarassed Laughing

Gotta go out for a bit and wont be back till after dark .. but work will continue and I'll have some pics later Thumbs Up
