Just recieved this email from Frank Melling (Mr Thundersprint)

The first problem was getting exhibitors to Manchester when travel is impossible in many parts of the country. Added to this was the real danger to spectators and exhibitors when the whole of the site was surrounded with ice. With even colder temperatures forecast for the weekend things were not going to get any better.



At present, Howard and Billie are looking to re-schedule the show and we’ll let you know the new date.



I apologise for any inconvenience but this really was unavoidable and completely beyond the organisers’ control.

It is a shame, but January was always a bit iffy. Heard the new date will be sometime in April, might be a good turn out at that time of year.

It is a show in the North West, we don't have many. We need to support this sort of thing so it can get better. It wont be a B'ham or London show, but there again some will say those are shit too.
If you don't make it worth while for exhibitors to turn up, it wont get better.
If you think it is shit, what positive steps would you take to make it better?
How would you support the show to make it better?

The show is basic, not a lot of glitz, but for those who live within 30miles of the venue it is a day out that is bike related.

Well said... Too many experts around these days that are quick to criticise.

People still put a lot of time and effort into making the show what it is and hats off to them as I know it cannot be easy to do.

A positive step Would be to get ride of the take the piss prices of entry.

Stafford show (I know it's a different show) is £9 and you can walk around for a whole day. The shit put on in Manchester is £12 (I think, I've not been for a few years), and you walk around for a couple of hours, and it's boring.

The show started with sky high prices and that's why it's shit. I hope it fails and then somebody organises the same sort of show with some decent prices. £5-£7 entry would be nice but everyone's a greedy bastard.

Hi

Prices are too high, but it is getting like that for many shows.

For example in a few weeks there is the Autosport show at the NEC. An OK show, but last year I think the cheapest ticket was £35 (and then add £8 NEC parking). OK that included an arena show, but that had been an extra in previous years so you could avoid it an save some money. Think this year it has come down a bit to £29. It is probably worth half that to me tops.

well if more people went, it could get a better time slot, more stalls would go and it would become cheaper.

Stafford is different in as much that there is much more room, over heads are probably cheaper, time of year it is done.
if you keep pulling it down it will go down and no one will replace it.

If you don't want to support local events, don't, but I for one would like an event close to me. I don't want to keep going down south for a bike show, spending a fortune on petrol, paying the high prices to get in, then be knackered when I get back home. I want to enjoy the show, I want to make it worth my while. that's why I will be spending my money.

Who in their right minds organises a bike show in the middle of winter when it is common knowledge that the majority of bike owners only ride for the warmish 3 months of the year?

Logic whould suggest that June/July would increase attendance.

How did you work that one out? It makes no sense at all for me to pay an extortionate amount now on the slim chance that the show gets better and the prices of the tickets reduce (which they wouldn't if the show was successful). That's worse value, not better.

Why should I have to go down south just to see a bike show?
If more punters went then more stands would want to go, so the value will increase
Why pay money on fuel tickets and time to go down south to a show that could be poor, or may have been poor when it first started but due to punters supporting it has got better, when I can support a local event, save money on fuel and time, and so the event will get better.
If you don't support it, you will lose it.
Most of the large shows or events started of small, but they were supported and grew. simple really.

Totally understand that. There was a motorcycle show up at Heaton Park last summer, it was its first and it was tiny. But they didn't charge you entry because they are starting up. Now I understand that the show at the Manchester Central is a bit bigger so it can't be free entry, but they are charging too much for what you see.

It's £12 to get in, then you've got all the hiked up prices for food, drinks, etc and what are you actually looking at? A bunch of bike dealers all in one place who are also no doubt paying to have a stand.

The people who run the show are greedy, so I hope the show flops and somebody steps, takes over and prices it reasonably.

I've already said I go to Stafford because it's a good show. That's the show I support and it is up North(ish).

Main reason would be someone just say it's shit/crap/rip off blah blah blah, putting people off from going and finding out themselves. Many like it, many can't get down south due to time/money/transport etc.

No I don't expect you just to go. But you seem to be of the thought that if you don't like something you will go out of your way to distroy it and say how great you feel because of your distruction. I don't like bus shelters made out of glass because they can get broken with ease, does not mean I go around breaking bus stop shelters just so that they tear them down and have nothing instead.

Where the hell have you got the idea that I get pleasure from the 'destruction' of the show?

I'm stating my opinion just like a lot of people did when they were disappointed with NEC show.

Like I said before, you seem to think I should go and now, you think I should write positive things about it. That would be lying though. People can make their own decision if they want to go or not. My recommendation is don't because it's not worth it.

Even KittyKat in the thread in The North said that the best thing about the show was the people she met off BCF who she went with and the actual show was 'rubbish'. I think that's saying something.

I went the Manchester show a few years ago, doubt I'll bother going again and I live in Manchester now.

It really is a piss poor excuse of a show, when I went the only highlight was the stunt show and buying some fudge, the stalls were a joke, largely just local dealers trying to flog everything they couldn't get rid of at the NEC.
