hello, dont mean to be stupid but i have just bought a new bike and i carnt figure how to open the seat to take it off on my 1998 vfr800fi ?

Is that the one with the underseat cans?

If it's anything like my Sprint, there's no room under there so there's no locking mechanism. Try looking under the seat padding at the back end, there might be allen bolts holding it on.

no its the one before. erm well i need to get to my battery lol. ill check for allen bolts. cheers

Look for the helmet lock on the left hand side, open that and behind it there is a small lever you need to pull down, you should then be able to remove the seat. Hope that helps!

As above, exactly how my VFR750 seat lock worked.

There should be a lever by the helmet lock with a loop on the end that you need to yank on when you turn the key in the helmet lock.
