Hey guys, i have an odd problem that i cant solve.

When riding along, my throttles sometimes sticks open.. the only way to get it to go back is to stop, and undo the bolts that hold the carb onto the engine a little. Then it'll pop back and be fine the rest of the day.

Then, it'll happen again the next day, so i'll have to loosen it some more..

then again.. and again.

Also, if i tighten the bolts up to when it starts feeling harder to turn, the throttle is soo tight it wont even open, so i have to loosen the bolts so it till.

Its like the bolts are somehow pinching the slide.. but i dont see how?

Is the cold weather causing this?

It could be the cold weather. Are you brave enough to open up the carb and have a look? That would at least let you know if all is clean. If so it probably is the cold.

Solution: take hair drier / blow torch to carb to warm it up. Once warm see if bike behaviour is back to normal Thumbs Up Laughing

ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston?

Yeah Very Happy its boggling me, had it apart a few times, its clean as a whistle in there.. even changed the needle for a slightly narrower one incase that was sticking.

As far as i remember, it didnt do this before the cold. But it just seems like a really odd problem.

Another idea, could the bolts off the engine, which it slides onto be slightly out of alignment? So when its tightened, it pushes it together?

Cheers for the hair dryer idea Very Happy

My mikuni would do that (the slide got so cold it would 'steam' when removed from the carb body) I found if you forced open the throttle it would unstick the slide, but as you often only find out that your throttle is stuck when trying to close it, its obviously not the best time to try it.

This time of year I regularly vary the throttle position (when cruising) to prevent it sticking.

It is a tad annoying Very Happy not being able to close the throttle.. or pull in the clutch and hear it scream.

It usually happens when the throttle is open wide, not in the start. I can tell its the slide thats stuck because i can still move the throttle, it just does nothing, can feel the cable going up and down aswell..
