No, not navigation fail, just stupidity. This is why I'm staying in Norway this weekend.

Be careful out there kids, yes there are people who are that stupid. Similarly:

Yep I'm in Oslo for work, I'm helping to build a Horse racing channel of all things. I get to see Horse buggy racing every day! And yes, despite everywhere you look being covered in snow people manage, and there is one secret to success.

Winter tyres.

Yes, they are really that good. Even the most hamfisted taxi drivers in their huge rear wheel drive auto Mercedes barges are able to function relatively normally.

What winter tyres are available to me as a sportsbike owner?

No mention of that idiot pensioner (snow-covered windscreen) being given anything other than a ice scraper.. Such laziness and stupidity should have been punished more severely. You can see that the wipers had stalled because of the snow, but it also shows that the snow would have been easy to wipe off by hand.

Lax policing. The driver was treated with great sympathy, as if they were the victim. Why was that?

The only possibly option really is road-legal wets, but not sure how long they'll last on a sports bike. Just googled and Avon ones are available in sports bike sizes. However, they're Avons, which means they're likely to have slightly worse grip than a damp marshmallow. (I have found Avon race wets not to be great on track, as well as a large proportion of other Avon tyres to be rather questionable.)
Google suggested a rear could last 300 miles in hot/dry conditions and that's on a light weight and (relatively) low power supermoto! Presumably better bimbling in winter.

And Joe; probably good in winter (think he uses 130 and 150 section 17" knobblies), but I suspect rather less good on a normal wet winter road Smile.

Bru: Because they're old, can get away with murder, well, death by dangerous driving by being old.

Is that really a serious question? Plenty of winter tyres are available to sportsbike owners, but they have to be fitted to the car you keep for the winter.

Seriously, G is the only person in the entire world who keeps riding in these conditions. Mind you, he's still a million times safer than Granny and her non-cleared windscreen.

Seen plenty of other people out on bikes. Ok, suspect I was the only one ENJOYING the first lot of snow before Christmas – well, actually I suspect the sports bike I saw that was still managing to make progress was probably glad that he could get home hours earlier. Some people out the next day and pretty much everyday since then too.
For the non-snowy bits, there are still plenty of people that prefer to adjust the kit and riding style they use, than get stuck in traffic, pay to park in inconvenient places and further contribute to congestion Smile.

Before I got my latest bike, would often see a Polish GSXR1000 (05-08) commuting enthusiastically on the same route I took.

Again and again am I reminded of the level of stupity in the human race. Is it that harder thing to use a bit common sense?

If those tw@s were driving on the ice for a thrill seeking adventure they had everything coming.

Are you kidding? I've had an absolute blast this winter, haven't stopped riding at all. I'm curious to know how many actually did use their bike in the snow though. I shall start a poll immediately.

Good idea on the poll Alexio.

I've been riding every day in the snow. It's not that bad...

Almost dropped it a 'couple' of times...

Thumbs Up

Don't think you got had quite the level of snow that we got in the Thames Valley on the 21st Smile - sorry, should have specified that I meant the first day's snowfall around here, where I saw a few people pushing/abandoning their bikes (a lot more cars left, of course, though).

That day I didn't manage much more than 10mph, mostly less; and that's on a bike with a flat rear trail tyre, which seems to be ideal for this sort of thing. Was fine riding home afterwards (well, averaged 15mph, maybe), but mostly just enjoyed it because I was doing so much better than everyone else Smile.

Hmm, I must admit I don't know how much snow that was. I'm still massively childish but I think even deeper snow would have more fun to experience trying to ride though.

It gets boring fairly quickly Smile.

Took the GSXR out a week on Tuesday ago to the shops when we again had loads of snow, carried on a bit further. Coming back got rather tedious, paddling the bike at an average of 2mph, with it going sideways a lot of the time.

Was ok on the KTM, but both times I didn't have anything better to be doing, would have been more annoying if I was trying to get from A to B.

Riding in snow is still a good laugh, would prefer to do it on a shitter though.....

And getting from A to B in a nightmare.

I make you right. I said on here a few weeks ago that certain offences should be given an automatic 4 week 'Stupidity Ban', failing to clear windows correctly, driving without lights etc. Nothing too major just four weeks to think about why you're a twat while you sit on the bus on the way to work. However, in this case I'd make an exception, I cannot see how this offence is any less dangerous than drink driving, if you can't see where you're going, you're a risk to all other road users. I'd make it a life-time ban.

At the very least the person should've been paraded through the streets and put in the stocks!!
