I need to pick a bike up.
I'm pretty sure if i do it in this order it's legal , please advise.

Insure it
Book an mot near to home advise it has not road tax.
mot station covers it temporarily for road tax

Drive it straight to pre booked mot
Go get the tax disc

Yes you can ride it to a pre booked mot and back or if it fails to a garage to repair it.

I did this recently and passed 3 ANPR cars none of which stopped me-no mot or tax. Very Happy

Years ago I registered an import XT550 and rode it to the mot station and back with no number plates on it I passed several police cars then and nobody stopped me Very Happy

I was looking to buy a non mot'd bike a few hundred miles away and rather than hiring a van book an mot near home but decided this was taking the P*ss

You're allowed to ride without tax to a pre booked MOT but it has to be within a reasonable distance.

If you'd be going straight to get it MOTed, why not get the seller to MOT it as that would be the easiest way? Or you could take it to an MOT place near to where you're picking it up from, then go to buy tax, then ride home.

You could just ride it home without tax or MOT, you're very unlikely to get pulled over and given a fine. Smile

Them not pulling you over has got nothing to do with your pre booked MOT.

If you had been stopped then the police would have contacted the MOT station to confirm that you had an MOT booked. They didn't pull you over probably because they weren't paying attention to the ANPR.

Aren't you able to ride it to a place for MOT work to be carried out?
I've got a feeling the legal definitions of this might be a bit vague, which could work for or against you.
