Hi, i am 16 and i have recently passed my CBT. (hurray for me)
unfortunately though now i have my moped i cant seem to find a way to display a front L Plate....

does anyone have any ideas on how to do this or whether it is legal to drive without a front one displayed? Confused

Get a few cable ties put 4 holes near the edge of the L plate and strap it to the fork leg.

Without one you will get 3 points £60 fine.

when i got my first ped i just stuck it up with duck tape and that kept in place on the front fairing, depends on model you can put it on the front mud guard if you chop it down but you will most likly get pulled for it.

Hi

Legally you can't trim them down (well, there is an allowance for TINY amount from the corners if I remember rightly) and you must have one on the front.

All the best

I personally never had one of my Gilera DNA50 or my CBR125. Was never pulled over, but I do now, on the account they inspect your bike before allowing you to do your module 1.

That doesn't mean it's not illegal - more than likely the coppers that have seen it before either just didn't know about that law (as they aren't omniscient, not even just about the law itself), or didn't want to be so damn petty (i think most coppers will fall into this category, as unless someone's taking the pee there's usually no need for it).

Reminds me of the small number plates / loud end cans. Both illegal but many people riding sensibly get left alone. Others don't.

TBH at the age of 16 and/or on a moped i think you're less likely to get away with stuff as the coppers know these kids usually cause more problems and so will generally pull them over, picking for stuff (probably to catch up with their targets..)

Also if you DO get pulled over and PC Plod doesn't like your attitute, they might do you for something so minor, just to get back at you (they are people after all, and people can all be vindictive).

the law alows for "rounding off the corners"
how that is interpreted is fairly random.....

I snapped my rear one off 6 months ago when cleaning, not had one since, had various cops stop at lights behind me. I'm fairly good at feigning stupidity that it was there at the beginning of the day Smile

Ignorance is no defence you would still get booked if they wanted to. It's not unlike telling them you forgot to get insurance as it only ran out last night. Wink
