I always warm the oil up before draining it, but not to that extent.. just so it's nice and comfortingly warm.

There's something quite satisfying about having to fish around in a tub of warm oil for your sump plug (yes, I always drop mine too and *usually* have purchased a replacement).

Actually... what do you do with an oil burn? I don't imagine running it under cold water is going to be particularly helpful? Any first aiders?

Swear a lot. Jump around a bit. Shake affected part about in vain attempt to cool it down. Have scar. Exaggerate/lie about how you got said scar - burning building, small children, kittens, the like.

You still need to cool it, so yes, water's still the best thing. Wink

hi that sounds nasty hope u recover soon!

As a chef I always always run burns under cold water for ay least ten mins as the burning continues and if the skin was broken and manky I believe ur to wrap in cling film and a trip to a and e !not to use a cloth as dirt and broken skin means infection

This is just what I have learnt in kitchens and maybe there newer HP to date advice so don't quote me

Treating oil burns is the same as normal burns isn't it?

I got either 2nd or 3rd degree burns (maybe in between?) on my shoulders once. Every last bit of skin came off, there was nothing left. Anyway, it's all back now and not even a scar, so you'll probably be alright? Thumbs Up

I'm used to getting burnt by doing stupid things like when even I have just finished welding I give it a quick rub with the side of my gloe to remove any oxide stuff on it.

Big no no that is Smile ..probably contaminating the weld even more by doing that. Obviously dont really matter if its a single pass weld and not multiple but still bad practice all the same. Hard habit to break as well Smile I know Smile

E45 cream will help your skin recover and cool it down, thats what hospitals use, especially on sunburn.

used to do it all the time, now i either get it near its last threads and "flick" it till it falls out, then try get plug out of tub of oil (wich is hot)
Or be a wimp and use a 30ft extension bar!

steve.

Have you not mastered the art of "quick arm"? Undo it till on last thread, then unscrew till its out but hold it so no oil drops then quickly pull the plug to yourself. Win.

I burnt my hand quite a lot on the exhaust of my kart, came in after about 20 minutes of raging two stroke going through said exhaust, bent down to check the back of the kart and rested my hand on the exhaust whilst looking, took a second or so to realise it was DAMN hot. Thumbs Down.

Generally speaking if it's a 2nd/3rd degree burn you won't feel much pain initially, the fact that he was jumping about like a loon is encouraging..

That reminds me of when I burnt myself with my soldering iron. The first thing I knew about it was the smell of my finger being cooked. Laughing
