I really enjoyed that!!

I must say I laughed a bit at the foot pegs scraping at the ground (surely this is a design fault of the bike if it's going to be used on a track like that?) and those people trying getting their foot down for just about no purpose Are they trying to copy motoGP when they use their feet for braking or is it a stability thing or something?

Anyway, like the video, makes me want to have a go!

ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston?

It's a well known occurrence which no one has really got to the bottom off.
There's many suggestions, but I've never heard extra braking before.

On my CG feet-down might have actually helped braking a bit , but on any decent bike it's going to be rather questionable.
I can remember I did actually try it in an absent minded moment on my NSR once. Had been riding my push bike with no brakes quite a bit, where I'd put a foot behind the pegs and weight it to slow. Needless to say, it wasn't very effective.
When playing with 'skitchen', I can assure you any decent friction between your feet and the ground is not a good thing - the forks and head stock are significantly stiffer than your legs for a reason!

After watching back some of rossi's most epic motogp battles online I can see him sticking his foot out but upon close inspection it doesn't actually touch the ground as I thought. Maybe it was entirely made up in my mind then but I remember someone on motogp last season doing so and it resulted in a pretty display of sparks. Could have been entirely by accident though!

I used my feet as brakes on my CG in the snow. Way more effective than my normal brakes in the circumstances

Sparks would be from titanium toe sliders for effect - or possibly a peg if they're really trying! Definitely wasn't for braking .
