Does anyone know how / where I can view Honda technical bulletins?
I have two numbers that I'm interested in reading.
TI-08/00-228
TI-05/02-252

I 'think' they relate to oil starvation on cylinder 1 on a PC35 Honda, CBR600FY.

I'll try giving Honda UK a call later but it would help if anyone knows their Email address.

This relates to damage I've found when changing the shims on a 16k engine.

I find this link can help on honda recals..those issued by vosa in the uk. I must say i think there must be a few 2 wheeled honda owners in the vosa camp by how many recalls they put out!! hope this helps but must say i aint looked up your exact problem....and it was usually the latter cbr600's that were noted for cam wear like that after the big H made the cam caps all into one casting meaning the caps moved out of line as you tightened them down in order by the book...a lot of race motors faild early on as a result due to them being stripped and rebuilt on a regular basis!

Thanks for that, it wasn't a recall so not on the list but it does appear to be a known problem. I only have a small part of the Technical release, and its in German:

Beschreibung:Nockenwellenschaden durch mangelhafte Ölversorgung
Abhilfe: Zur Verbesserung der Ölversorgung wurde die Ölversorgungsbohrung der Zylinderkopfdichtung von 1,8mm auf 2,6mm vergrößert.

Basically - Description: camshaft damage through deficient oil provision.
Remedy: the holes on the head gaskets were enlarged from 1.8mm to 2.6mm.

I was interested in reading all the release. I'll give that site a go, might be useful.

So as not to high-jack the other thread;

You said

So what were the symptoms? Rough running, noisy top end, or were there none at all?

On mine there was nothing obvious but then I had nothing to compare it to. Searching around reveals that the worst symptom appears to be a loud rattle from the cam. In theory the remaining three journals should do a decent job of keeping it all in line with maybe just a small amount of risk of the valves pushing the camshaft upwards creating more wear. Maybe of interest is that the valve clearances on the damaged cylinder were virtually the same as the rest of the valves.

My own thoughts are that any 2000MY that are still on the road are not going to suddenly seize up, they have lasted ten years so far. Honda reckon that there were only five cases worldwide. How cool am I to have one of the five?

I reckon I could get away with just banging it all back together but pride won't let me. The fact that I have a large stock of spares, including several complete heads, helps a lot.

Seeing as you linked to his in another thread, I'll bring it up again...

Just curious, but why do you have several complete heads?

I brought the contents of a garage from an ex-racer.
