 |
|
Ive considered a few options for a 2nd bike. Basically it will be another toy to go alongside my ZX6R.
Initially I thought about a green laner, as I wanted a bike to use while the 6r is hibernating for dec/jan.
However, if I had the money (7k) theres one bike id choose over all else at the moment which is a 796 Hypermotard. So in the meantime, until I convince the Mrs to let me get a loan I want a hooligan tool in a similar vein to the 796 - but on a serious budget.
So any reccomendations as to which bike is going to provide a 'similar' kind of ride (I use similar loosely for obvious reasons)??
Key requirements:
budget £1500-£1800
preferably 4 stroke
easy wheelies would be welcome
keen handling - will be mainly used in the twistys
track friendly - (no expensive plastics etc)
things which are not of importance - top speed, cosmetics

A second hand KTM 640 Supermoto might fit in to that price range if you're lucky and is quite likely to put a smile on your face ____________________ will never give up his CG. I look at my fuel gauge more as a progress bar than a fuel gauge.
G: With my GSXR I do often effectively use it as a scooter with a clutch in town.
ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston? |

Stuff I've read suggests the little hypermotard is a bit overweight/underpowered.
If you want a similar 'lunacy', I'd be looking at a cheap streetfightered sports bike.
If you want lots of power, an R1 or TLs if you're stuck on the twin thing.
Or a 600 if you want a bit less power, could always fit a restrictor of some kind to bring it down to ducati levels of power .
Wide bars and a lowered nose/slightly raised rear will give that easy flickability.
Getting a similar model to your current ninja (J model or similar I presume) in streetfightered form would make sense for spares etc too. |

Ye that idea did cross my mind G but I really dont like 'fightered' sportsbike, just not my ting
Ive just watched a review on a DRz400 on motors tv, that looks like it could be fun with some supermoto tyres Or is supsension travel/handling etc going to be a bit too sloppy for the road? |

Presume it's the looks that aren't your thing? Otherwise, very similar to the expensive ducati you want apart from the seat height .
I'd still suggest going for a SM/TE610 over a DRZ personally, but might push your budget a bit.
They're an 'ok' bike, but rather underpowered if you're using it to get from A to B. That lack of power does, for me, make it more fun on back roads. Supermoto tyres are ok, but frankly I rarely push the limits of road tyres on trail wheels either, so aren't a big thing for me.
Not sure how adjustable the suspension is on the DRZ - on my CCM it comes with settings for road and off-road use and works fine on-road, though I don't have a big issue using any of my dirt bikes with off-road settings and SM wheels. |
