This dude comes so close to being a greasy stain. Awesome skills, but prob should not have been in that situation in the 1st place....

R1 close shave.

EDIT - just noticed the 4 leaf clover on the keyring, obviously saved his lucky ass.

Thats not strictly a 'close call'.. as it seems that he did come off (although you dont see it).
If you class coming off as a close call ... then the interweb is full of videos.
You therefore owe 50p.

This is my favorite one, posted it a few years back.

Also, is it just me or does the road look like it has loads of small surface cracks in it?

Well when you can see the bike slide past the van and then into a grass banking, that means he crashed Laughing

Blind corner junctions should not be made like that Shocked (although obviously the R1 is going a tad fast). Amazingly lucky.

There are moments in country roads when I'm going just 50MPH when I have to brake hard for vehicles coming out of junctions. It's what I hate more than anything else, always having to be prepared to swerve around something after a corner.

Never hit anything in all my experience biking though, I must be doing something right.

He must of got one hell of an adrenaline rush there... Drooling

Now I don't believe in luck, his actions and the cagers actions alone saved him. They were just so narrow it's astonishing. Although I'm glad he's OK, I hope he learned something...

...He wasn't going fast enough, if he was going faster, he could of skipped the whole incident. Laughing

*Shouldn't it be near hit? As near miss suggests you nearly missed them but didn't?

Pretty sure it was brought up in another thread..

You can either miss someone or miss someone by a measurable amount that is so close (some people might refer to the word "close" as "near", I hope it isn't too confusing for general public consumption) that you might even call it a near miss.

But yes, they nearly hit that car.

Old video but one that makes me cringe every time... Having said that though, the camera gives it a perspective that is bound to create a faster pace of events, or so it would seem.

My point is it would appear almost impossible to react as sharply as that when you are simply watching such a video, which most would put down to luck and rightly so.
But I ask this as someone who has... have you ever had a near miss similar to that one and how did you find your reactions to play out?

I like the way he see's the van, slams the anchors....and realises within about a half a second that he's not going to stop that quickly...so gets back on the power and goes around.

Some good reactions and skills there...maybe a bit of luck.

I'm sure many of us would just slam on the anchors and skid into the van...

I'm also sure many of us don't go that fast on roads like that Laughing

I notice from the full video that it didn't slow him down.

If that had happened to me I'd probably pull over to clean my pants out.

The black bits are usually repairs to the road, from my experience of American highways they are much harder wearing (and noisier as a result!) than the motorways here, and they repair surface cracks with some kind of tar filler that you can see there. Unfortunately as a result the ride is often rather uncomfortable... I don't complain so much about our roads after spending time there!

That video is just classic lack of experience. No way was he going too fast for the corner, he could have easily got round if he'd got off the brakes and leant further but he didn't trust the bike.

Agreed, I've nearly had a few offs where I almost braked instead of just turn. What my mind ended up doing was braking really hard up to the turn point and then just forcing my bike in to the corner as low as it would go and hoping for the best. What he forgot to do was let go of the brakes after slowing down and turning Laughing

Fuck me, I've had close shaves (even where I'v very nearly grazed leathers against bumpers etc) but just that give me a fright and an adrenaline buzz. Shocked

I think If I'd survived that, either my head would be as big as the White house and I'd kill myself through a false sense of invincibility or I'd quit riding above any limits with any of real danger (in realtion to those antics) before I killed myself. Neutral
