Hi all, for the last 2 or 3 months my CG has had a weird problem with the electrics, which I think is a dodgy battery.

When I first got it, the neutral light would come on, and the horn and indicators would work with just the ignition on. When the fuse blew nothing worked with the ignition on, but just about worked when the engine was running.

Now when I put the ignition on nothing works, but when the engine is running everything works as it should (horn is loud, lights are nice and bright) Is this a duff battery (which is about year old_ or something like a bad earth or dead reg/rec (I've never observed smoke coming from that area, and theres no melted wires :S)

I need to know whats causing the fault so I can sort it ready for the MOT on Feb. 1st

any help given is appreciated Smile

Definitely sounds like at least the battery and possibly other issues too. Batteries aren't very expensive, I would either test your current battery with a volt / amp meter while the bike is off and when it's running or just replace it.

After that there are less things that could be wrong but it would be another electrical fault.

ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston?

Sounds like.. the battery isnt holding enough charge, but this the engine running, this kinda just tops off the battery to give it enough juice to power them.

I had similar problems on mine caused by the cold weather, but even without, sometimes the lights stop working = battery drained, but run it up the street, battery gets slightly charged and it'll work again.
