Heya, i'm in the process of going over what the GS needs to get it nice and tidy again now the worst of this winter seems to be over and done with and one of my concerns is the state of the bobbins on the front brake disk.

It doesn't seem warped and I'm certainly not getting any pulsing from the lever but the front brakes are really noisy and clicky in use, at first I suspected the caliper sliders but a quick tug on the disks showed that they have a fair bit more play against the carrier than I'd expect.

Is there much I can do or am I best off binning the disk and getting a new one? Whilst it stops just fine the noise is a little unnerving to put it mildly so leaving it as is isn't really an option I'm keen on Wink

Cheers Thumbs Up

That's exactly why floating disks rapidly became semi-floating disks when they first became trendy and appeared on commercial models. Oh the memories.

There's a little flat spring arrangement inside the bobbins which is there to stop the disks floating quite so much as they would like to. Would guess this has become partially seized with the winter grottage. I don't think you can usually dismantle the bobbins (worth a look) so you could just drown them in wd40 and work them back and forward a bit, might free them up. If not, new disks.
