hi all,
i've decided i must have some ratchet type spanners.
either with different sized ratchets at either end or with normal open ended spanner at 1 end.
usual sizes, like 8,10,12,14mm a minimum.
anyone recommend half decent ones?
preferably not hideously expensive.
something like this maybe https://www.busters-accessories.co.uk/productinfo/DP71247/Workshop/Tools/Draper
but doesnt have to be the flexible neck type.
cheers,
GAZ

They`re certainly very solid, had mine nigh on six months maybe longer now, I have a reputation for being ham fisted and breaking tools. Embarassed

Used one of the larger ones with a piece of scaf bar on the end for leverage with no problems.

I`d recommend them Thumbs Up

just tried the on-line reservation service for my local store, + it seems they do have a set in stock. Very Happy
I never had any issues with any other tools from there, so i'll give them a go at that price.
i didnt realise they came with hex bits , so thats a bonus, though i cant see them being as good as the bits that i got years ago.
there extremely well made, fit on the half inch ratchet + come in a nice bright red tin.(though i only ever seem to use the 5mm bit, lol)
see what happens the morn, when i go to collect them.lol
cheers,
GAZ

Most all of them that look like that seem to be the same pretty much.

Personally, I'd go for the flexi-head ones if possible, however haven't seen any on offer recently.

The open ends on these always seem to be a bit iffy.

I have a set of kamasa ones (8-24mm, all sizes). They are totally awesome and truly a thing of beauty but were hell of an expensive.

That said. I'm not sorry and consider them to have been worth the money.

Be carefull not to unscrew yourself into a corner! If you use a ratchet spannjer undo a bolt that lands up butting against something before it's fully out, there is no way to screw it back in again and no way to get your spanner off it. You will do this once and once only!

Very true Embarassed

I managed to get a small hacksaw blade in and cut the bolt, luckily before anyone saw me Embarassed

if you cant fit a ratchet and socket in to get the bolt out, then the bolts too short to bother with a ratchet.

one of the few tools that i think are overhyped, overpriced, fragile and pointless.

I dont usually recommend spending ALOT of money on tools. But for Ratchet spanners, I couldnt stress more that you buy from Bluepoint or Snap-On.

They are one of the only companies who guarantee ratchet mechanism tools.

I've got a set of Halfords fixed head ratchet spanners. They have an open end spanner on one end, And a Ratchet ring spanner on the other end.

I've also got a set of Bluepoint angled head Ratchet spanners. With the little lever to reverse the ratchet. Open ended on one and again.

A few of the halfords ones have now broken, Sizes like 8, 10, 13 and 17.

The bluepoint ones are going stronger than ever. And when one does break, It will be changed there and then on the snap-on van at work.

That said, If you dont use them very much, then cheap ones will be suffice I guess.
