Hi guys!

Just after a simple answer here.

I've recently bought a ZXR400 and got it up and running today. At idle its a little rattley in the cam chain area. I've been told these bikes have quite a noisy valve train anyway, but today during my first ride it made a worrying noise...

I was pulling away in second (by mistake) and it sounded like the cam chain was 'dragging'. This was the only time I heard it. While running it seems fine.

Is this a sign of a loose cam chain?

Cam chain would really be a problem in every gear and would get worse with rev's, but probably harder to hear over the exhaust note. Simple check would be to take the spring out of the cam chain tensioner, then take the tensioner out and see how far along it is. If it's more than the manual says then it's time for a new cam chain. Chain: £40, tool: £25
