I know where I could find wheels, but wondered if anybody had any particular recommendation for wheels suitable for bungs.

Just buy some bungs. Skateboard wheels are a good bodge which came from before the advent of real bungs, but you'll find it hard to make something that won't damage the bike when you drop it or crash.

Even R and G who have an excellent reputation cock it up a lot of the time...

Skate wheels are often used through axles and, I believe, cut in half on supermoto footpegs (that's to protect the track, not crashing, though.)
In those circumstances, you're fairly unlikely to damage the bike.
However, as Marjay suggests, just bung them on in random places and you may well find you end up doing more damage than you save.
