20/50 or ep90 for the gearbox, not sure how much.
For the engine mate i would run it on basic mineral oil, maybe even that classic stuff they sell in halfords

The continental is unit construction yeah?

Given its age. Pretty much anything you stick in it should be fine, it'll have been designed to run on straight 30wt oil I'd imagine.

Most of my mates with old brit bikes use a good quality, mineral based multigrade of the 20w-50 range such as castrol GTX. (that's what I'm using in my Indian Bullet 350.).

Another mate uses Mobil 1 in his Matchless G45 racer but even he admits this is probably overkill.

The bullet is quite amusing, it's a pre-unit design (seperate engine and gearbox). The gearbox is packed with grease but you top it up with oil. The resultant goo is horrible to behold but is a design that has been working (without leaking out like oil by itself does) for the last 50 years.

the continental is the same (separate engine and gearbox) iv found the right oil 20/50 like you said just wanted to make sure cuz its the five speed box and it was not good when it was new,so it will need all the help it can get. Laughing. just need to find out how much to put in now.

If it's anything like the bullet, there should be a level screw on the oil tank. You park the bike level pour oil in until it just starts to ooze out of the level hole.

The bullet has a seperate primary chaincase too with its own filler and level screw.

From reading about though, it looks like your bike actually has a unit construction with a slightly odd arrangement of the gearbox so it shares the oil with the rest of the engine but is in a seperate compartment. The oil circulating around the whole arrangement with a pump.

It may be that you have to do some odd priming jiggery-pokery after filling it initially to make sure the oil is evenly distributed throughout the engine when you do the final level check. I'd certainly check up on this with someone who knows the model if I were you.
