hi. ive just got my honda back on the road after a month of sitting idle. i had to replace the carb with one from a scrapyard

i went out on it for the first time in a month today, with the 'new' carburettor. she accelerates great through 1st, 2nd and 3rd...but when you shift into fourth it feels like the engine isnt responding properly...you twist the throttle and sometimes nothing happens

any thoughts?
the only thing i can think of is that maybe i couldve damaged the engine. i started her up with the old carb and she raced upto 7-9000rpm. surely if the engine was damaged though it would affect the other gears too

Sounds a bit like fuel starvation. I'd check the fuel filter and tap is clear. Can also be caused by a blocked filler cap breather (try it with the cap off, see if the problem goes away).

If in doubt, give it a new spark plug (this advice goes for any 2-stroke that isn't running properly).
