It's a free gift at full subscription price.

They're also offering a discounted subscription price entirely separately, but it does not come with a free gift.

Seems fair enough to me. The price difference is significantly less than the typical selling price of most of the gifts, so if you want any of those things, it makes sense buying the full subscription with the gift.

This thread just reminded me i meant to subscribe to Fast Bikes. Only bought the magazine once. Wouldn't say i was wowed by it (only bought it because they were reviewing my bike and said lots of good things about it!) but they are offering a Kreiga US10 tailpack if you sign up for a year.

Subscription is 4 x ?12.something. Cheapest i can see the tailpack anywhere is ?35 so pretty good deal since i had been going to buy one anyway.

The reason why that seems to be a good deal is because magazines aren't the main product. We are.

They make most of their money from selling us to advertisers.

Also, I thought it was pretty obvious but 95% of the time "Free" really means included in the price.

Notice i didn't say "Free" anywhere in my post. Wink

Anyway the way i see it is i get the tailpack i was going to buy for what i would have paid anyway and get 12 mags for about ?1 each. Plus i can split the cost in 4 parts over the year Smile

I wasn't quoting you. The quote was to indicate that's the word that is used all the time but is rarely the case. I was quoting the general use of the word when used in magazine subscriptions (or almost anything). The last line was a general statement in repsonse to the free gift costing money and this thread in general.

Also, I am not against magazine subscriptions with "free" gifts. If I didn't already have that tailpack and I was looking for it I'd happily go for the subscription as it's quite a good deal. Even if you don't necessarily like fast bikes, it's good to have something to read on the toilet. Cool

Just because there's a bit more to it doesn't mean I still won't buy into it if it's something I want. Embarassed
