 |

What should the fuel consumption be on a 1990 NSR?
I currently get about 110kms on about £5.00 if i ride steadily and not take it past 8500 revs and keep it under 65mph.
If i start taking it over 8000 revs and in every gear and going pretty quick it just drinks the fuel as fast as it goes, i put in £6.00 and did 21 miles ish at about 80 - 85mph taking it to 10,000 - 11,000 revs in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th, this was going up and down the same road racing with mates, by the time i had gone up and down the road 4 times, i carried on into town, another couple of miles and it cut out on me, had to go onto reserve.
Slightly shocked at the fact it used a fiver in such a quick time!
Also my plug is black with a small brown dot on the firing end, is that correct?
Its good on oil, ive done 2,800ish kms on 3 tanks of 2 stroke which i thought was pretty good.
Also, i'm trying to work out if my bike is fully de-restricted.
I so far have had just over 85mph out of it on a good day, the lad who i purchased it from said it was de-restricted and he had 110 out of it which i thought was a bit much but i thought it should still be good for 100 ish.Its got 29,660kms on the clock.
i've looked in carburettor and airbox for restrictions and also in the reed manifold and cannot see anything obstructing the way it should work. |

Is something on the way out then on mine which is causing the fuel to be used more?
I know its a single cylinder 2 stroke but its getting to the stage where iam looking at buying a bigger (4 stroke) bike. I probably spend £30 a week on fuel, just for a bit of fun but for the bike it is and the engine size it seems cheaper to run my 1400cc car!!

Are you sure that someone hasn't sneaked a Firestorm engine in it? Performance, noise, and fuel economy sounds about the same
Check for leaks and stuff. Does the bike vibrate a lot or make strange sounds when you rag it?
As Robby said, sell it and get a bigger bike. ____________________ TiN

if i give my NSR a full tank (£6-£7) then i can get about 110-118 miles out of it. tend to top it up every 80-90 miles tho just to be on the safe side ____________________ "Gaspar you fool" |

Yeah, you can't go too wrong with an engine rebuild, especially if it's done 20k miles already.
Whilst you've got the engine out, it will give you the chance to check out the condition of all the fasteners, hoses, wiring etc.
Someone else should be able to tell you the appromximate costs. ____________________ TiN
