I have a kawasaki kdx 80 it starts fine but it idles high then back to normal then super high and does not like to come down then. The bike is older. I am a car mechanic not a bike mechanic. Please help give me all the possible answers you can Thanks.

Check your base gasket. When my DT had a holed base gasket it went absolutely beserk as you describe.. I assume a KDX is a two stroke right?

Also check (well replace) the crank seals, if they are old and hard, then they will be letting air in .. really messing with mixtures ..
