Crazy milage...odometre prob!

Recently the speedo cable on my Honda CM125 broke so I replaced it. Now in two weeks I've been riding daily commute into town and done, apparently 200+ miles. Trust me, I haven't done near 200 miles. It has a kph to mph converter attached but even in km it's way off. I had to unplug the cable because it was just racking up the miles.

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks!

You can change the toothed cogs to convert either to miles or KM's.

My guess is that it wasn't tightened tight enough and that you need to screw it back in below the clocks.

After market parts also break.. I bought an after market clutch cable for an RS 125, it snapped on me very quickly.

I think normally when they do KPH to MPH it only affects the speedo.
And so the trip and odo will still be in kilometers and not miles.
So you have done 200 km... Not 200 miles.

So unless you're absolutely sure you haven't done 200km on your commutes i'd say that was the reason.

200 kilometers = 124 miles

If its a fully mechanical speedo, then the calibration is set by the gearing on the cable drive at the front wheel.
Kph=mph can be achieved by changing the cable drive on teh front wheel or putting a reduction gear on one end of the cable.

When you removed the cable, why did you think it was broken?
When you refitted the new cable, does it over read on speed as well as mileage?
It SHOULD do as they are both geared together.....
& my suspicion would be that if you have a cable end KMh=Kph adapter fitted, you've fitted it backwards, so instead of reducing the cable speed by approx 40% its over-driving it by about 60%....
