I want to insure myself on my girlfriends little Vespa for no more than a week.

I've searched through Google and not found anything useful. I found Flexirider insurance, but they require you to be over 25 (which I'm not). And my current insurer will not add it to my policy.

Anyone know of any other ways to get cheap temporary insurance?

Thanks Karma

Ebike do a pay as you go monthly insurance.

However, you could be really cunning, pay for a full year, ride around for however many days you need and then cancel the policy within the cooling off period and get a full refund. There may be a small admin fee, so make sure you check the smallprint first... Thumbs Up

No admin fee if it's within the 14 days, just pro-rate of the days used.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I got insured from Saturday to Monday morning on a GSXR1000 I ended up not buying (but did take for a test ride) for 1p - I think they'd only just put the policy through their system on Monday morning when I called up to cancel.

Legal/acceptable or not, Carole Nash charge ?25 if you cancel within 14 days. Flat price. This is clearly not pro-rata. Which indicates to me that if you try to cancel with for example, Bennetts you better bend over and grease up.

I'm pretty sure it's not legal; I would be mentioning ombudsmen and the like if they suggested this to me.

I tried e-bike, they want ?30 a month! which is very steep. Considering I can insure it for a whole year for ?120, which again I think is pretty expensive considering it's a baby scooter.

Just going to quote a guy from bikesure on another forum when i brought this up recently (i believe the guy is a manager or something):

"Both the insurance company and broker are able to make reasonable charges if the cover is cancelled within the 14-day cooling-off period. The insurance company is likely to issue a proportionate time on risk charge or their minimum charge (usually around ?25), which ever is greater. The broker is likely to retain any arrangement fees.

It is not usually the best way to aquire short term insurance and the FSA understand that the cooling-off period should not be mis-used.

Cheers,

Phil"

I'd be trying ombudsmen etc too regardless if it ever came up, as i too think it is ridiculous and should be considered unfair under the unfair contract terms act. I'd prefer not to have to though, knowing how many companies are when they have a policy to hide behind.

Seems they are allowed to charge a reasonable admin fee. I think it'd be back to bank-charges style questions over 'reasonable fee'.
