Mobile phone - blocked iPhone (IMEI?)

I've been in contact with somebody on Gumtree that lives close to me is selling an iPhone, however the phone function on it doesn't work, e.g. he is unable to text and make/recieve phone calls.

I have asked if it was an insurance claimed phone (then blocked by Apple), if it was blocked is there anyway of unblocking it?

I am happy to use it as an iPod if I fail to fix it into a phone (as it is still as cheap as an iPod touch) but am just worried that they might be able to block it in the future.

It's blatantly stolen.

Although if you still want to buy stolen phones, you will need to change the IMEI if you want to use it on a network, yes.

Googling "iphone change imei" gives a load of results.

Remember that changing the IMEI is very illegal.

Also, IMEI blocks only work within Europe, once removed from Europe, the IMEI is no longer blocked.

Yip, nicked I wouldnt go near it.

I am no angel but being caught with a nicked phone is a no no.

The government (Nanny) went nuts on stolen phones a few years ago due to the amount of kids stabbing each other.
