A friend of mine has a Z1000 and has swapped his end cans for some MTC's. Everything was OK for 3-4 days then the bike started spluttering and dumping fuel in the exhaust. At low speeds around the streets it's struggling but at higher (legal motorways) speeds it seems OK.

When it stalls, it cranks over like the engine is flooded. MTC say there is no need for a Power Commander or DynoJetting.

He's not riding the bike at the minute and is fearing the worst (cost wise) for a repair.

Does anybody have any idea(s) as to what the problem(s) could be? Any info would be a BIG help.

Thank you guys!! Smile

Needs a power commander / the FI needs remapping.

Also, is there a lamda sensor on a z thou?

Kudos for MTC cans though, they sound great and come with a lifetime warranty (excluding your mate buggering the zorst Very Happy )

It sounds like he may have fouled the plugs, I'll be he was starting & running it for short periods quite a bit when he fitted the new cans to listen to the noise.
Stick a new set of plugs in it first and see how it goes then.

sounds like its running rich at the bottom end of the rev range, get a PC3 on it

If he gets new plugs and its still running rich it will just happen again?

Thats depends on why it fouled them. If it did it because it's running massivly rich at the bottom end then yes, it will do it again.

However, if it only fouled them because it was fired up and revved then stopped again before it could warm up properly and get off 'choke', then no, it won't do it again.

[edit] It's also better to do that and maybe waste £20 on plugs than waste £300 + dyno time on a power commander...

You could see if Kawasaki do a race map, I know Triumph do it, It cost my dad £12 to get a map for a 'race' can loaded into his bike.
