This is for a mate who doesn't use the forum, so any advice or info is much appreciated as i have never bothered looking into these bikes myself.

Hes gone and bought his first bike, a kh100. It's just to learn on until hes 21 and can do his DAS in september.

Currently the bike looks mint but ive only seen pictures, however he said it sounds good too. The problem is he is a complete noob to bikes and didnt even know it was a 2 stroke.

So does anyone have any info on these bikes please? Anything he should know? Also does it run a 2 stroke tank+pump because apparantly he doesnt know either!

Cheers lads and lassies!

Hi

From memory a disk valve 2 stroke, and don't think they were bad bikes (although suspect spares might be an issue now). We fairly common when I lived in NI (250cc learner law, but insurance was hideous so most people stuck to 100s, going for a 125 doubled the insurance).

99% sure it will have a seperate oil tank for 2 stroke oil.

All the best

Keith

Same bike as the Kh125, which i used for 2 years before passing my test, has oil pump, and is good for about 70 flat out, comfortable enough, ok brakes, headlights pretty poor, would be even worse i suspect if it had 6v electrics like some of the KH's, but generally a good bike to learn on, also mine sounded good aswell, quite deep, although there was barely any baffle left.

As I understand its the same as a KE100 just not styled to look like an offroader. The Haynes manual covers the KE100 KH100 and KH125 from memory.

I used to have a KE100. Nice enough bike but I never got it running right.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Same engine setup at KH125 and KE100, same haynes manual.

Kickstart mechanism is prone is going, but bumps alright.

travels 50 miles to pick one up for a friend, hadnt been started in 2 years, few kicks with choke and it was going again.
Rode home no issues at all!

Cheap to insure, like under ?150 for a CBT with 0 months experience!

Most spares can be found in shops, most are able to order in.
I can give you a number of the shop I got spares from, take about a week to ship in.

Yes to seperate oil tank, under a side panel.

6V system, but works alright! Horn is lacking in oomph!

kickstart is definatly an issue, i spent 2 years bumping mine, and not sure if all had 6V electrics my KH125 is 12V

cheers lads much appreciated!

I still havent seen the bike but ill pass on the info. I'm sure its not rocket science to bump a kh due to the lack fo weight and capacity so should the kickstart go then its not too much of a problem!

Any idea what the reuild intervals are? it has about 10000miles on it currently but has been stood for a few years. Runs perfectly and ahs full MOT etc mind.

When I was into 2T 125s, I was actually thinking of buying GTO125(KH125=GTO125? or KH125GTO?). I don't know what GTO means but it was made in Thailand. What I liked was its conventional design, and 2T engine. According to owners comments I read, their suspension is a little bit hard. (Because many people ride on a bike in Thailand?) And front brake is drum brake. Petrol tank is really big for 125.

Low tune air cooled basic 2 stroke. Will virtually never need a rebuild (unless someone has tried to "tune" it).

And being a disk valve air cooled 2 stroke whipping the top end off is the work of a few minutes.

All the best

Seperate 2 stroke oil tank under one of the side panels (fill it by lifting the seat). Carb is under one of the crank case covers as is the oil pump adjustment.

Some have a cable connecting the clutch lever to the sidestand so when you pull the lever in the stand lifts up. If you try and pull the clutch lever whilst the bike is leaning on the stand nothing happens and the lever refuses to move.

6 volt makes for very dim indicators. At MOT time, ask to run the engine when testing the lights.

One i picked up was rebuilt at 18,000 and has lasted a further 12,000 miles on that same rebuild, no top end changed yet, looked after though!

The 2 stroke oil, when you wind the throttle open it kinda sucks the oil down a pipe into the carb, these are prone to coming loose over time too.. scary when its the only oil supply Wink

But all in all a nice commuter 2 stroke...only one i'd own if im honest, I dislike 2 strokes. *shield up*

Tiny bikes and very much lacking in any kind of go...but they plod on reliably. My RXS felt large in comparison to the KH I had. I can remember being able to easily lift it off the ground - which might come in handy Laughing

ive got a early 70's a1 model kh125, it currently needs the crank seals done, parts for the a models are impossible to get, (i bought 3 bikes to make 1 complete bike) but the kh100's the spares are still plentiful, the rotary valve system is suberb, and is easily altered to give a bit more poke, finding a aftermaket exhaust might be a bit tricky, but you might find 80's expansion chamber on ebay somewhere,

all in all good wee bikes,
make sure he keeps his oil topped up,

I had a KH100EX i think, with the disk brake.

Points needed alot of attention to keep it happy, but otherwise only required fuel and 2smoke oil to keep it purring along.

Certainly alot more pleasant than the CG125 I passed my test on.
