Ive got a guy coming all the way from holland for my K1H today.

When (if) he buys it he wants to do an instant bank transfer of the money from his account in holland... will I need and IBAN number etc or will my noraml sort code and account number be ok?

I'm pretty sure you'll need to ask for your IBAN number and SWIFT code. (some banks charge extra if you don't supply the swift)

I thought bank transfers could be cancelled a day or 2 after, before the money is properly transferred over?

I'd never trust this way... cash only! Thumbs Up

Tell him to withdraw the cash from a bank over here, l,m sure as long as he,s got the correct ID and account details he can withdraw a large amount from a overseas account.

If he can do a bank transfer then he can also go into a bank and withdraw the cash. Whilst doing a CHAPS transfer which would have the money in your account the same day is an option, cash is just easier.

I'd assume that they'll either bring cash with them.

have you spoken to your bank about this????? if i was expecting to do a deal from overseas i would phone my bank.

cant do any harm to ask for a few details before-hand.
like whats the name of his bank?, and his full name?,maybe an address.
these could be passed on to your bank to check out???

if he already has a fistful of notes when he gets there, maybe the alarm bells should be ringing!!!!! they maybe forgeries!!!

sad that we dont trust anybody but it`s just to much cash?money.

just a thought??

I'd say there's no harm in a bank transfer as long as the bike isn't handed over until the money's in the account. It can't be cancelled after this point as far as I'm aware.

I had this email on saturday, sounds like the same fella

Quote:

Hey Michael,

Nice bike and it looks good on the pictures!
Do you have some more pictures?

And do you mind selling it to a foreigner? (The Netherlands)

What a 53 plate by the way?

thanks,

Thom

I mailed him back saying i dont care who buys it as long as i dont have to do anything, sold my cbr to a dutch fella and had no problems at all.

He then emailed this:

Quote:
Hi Mike

If it's possible I can already pick it up this week? Friday or Sunday?

And do you want cash or can I transfer it to your bank account when I'm at your place? That's easier for me, but let me know.

Thanks!

Thom

I never got around to dealing with him however as a lad from southampton bought my b1h tuesday.

the reason they buy them, the dutch guy who i dealt with previously explained, is that they have a very high import tax on luxury items, i.e vehicles etc. So for them to buy bikes in they are very expensive, means used prices are also very expensive. Buti f they buy and import older vehicles (cars arent so ideal due to us being RHD) the tax is much less, or zero.

So for the them to come here, with the weak pound, buy our bikes even at a good price for us, when they get to holland they can make a lot of profit

Like others have said though, cash only

Another thing I've found with foreigners buying bikes is they try and take the whole v5 untouched. Do not let them do this. Send it off as you would with anyone else. Despite what they claim, you can take a bike out of the country with just the new keeper slip, it may take them 5 days more to register it exported, but don't run the risk.

I called the DVLA and checked this out, they DO need the full V5 untouched for re-registering and tax or something...... i just have to write to the DVLA to tell them who the new owner is and where the bikes gone.

As you may have guessed i sold it to the dutch bloke who came over from holland with his car and trailer after doing a normal bank transfer of the money using my IBAN etc. He paid ?3500 for it which i was pleased with since i couldnt even sell it for ?3300 here after a month of trying.

Thanks for your comments.

Exactly. The overseas buyer MUST have the complete V5C, as otherwise they cannot register it in their country.

sold my GPZ500 to a guy who pretended to be from Brimingham. When he came to pick it up, it turns out he'd drove for 22 hours from Poland.

Paid in crisp ?50 and gave me no problems.

Pleasure doing business with in the end.

Why he drove all that way for a beat up ?400 GPZ is anyones guess
