thought that my probs with my gpz lay with the carbs as it had a muzzy performance exhaust fitted but the carbs hadnt been rejetted as per the fitting instructions.
So i bought the correct main jets, stripped and cleaned the carbs, put everything back together with the new jets. Set the needles 1mm higher and turned the idle air screws at 2.5 turns out as per the muzzy fitting instructions.
All this and its made no difference at all It will start but wont pick up revs on the choke and will die if given any throttle at all. Also and i think this may be the real problem theres a knocking noise coming from the rocker cover, so im thinking valves ???
It was run with the muzzy fitted but no carb changes for a year by the previous owner and by me for about 8 months until it died one morning. when i say died it had been running rough for about a week not picking up on the choke during this time and then one morning it lost power and died. i manged to get it going again and limped the last mile home with hardly any power.
would this year and a half of running with the wrong carb settings have caused any problems. Also it was low on oil and i know it was fine when it was running so it most have been burning oil as well. ( the exhaust smells a bit oily as well if you sniff it !)
So any ideas ?? valves or worse ???

Hi

If you are unlucky then running lean will have contributed to burning out a valve or burnt a hole in a piston.

First thing I would try would be a compression check.

All the best
