Value my lathe please?

Hello,

I'm going to do some touring for soon. To fund this I want to sell some bits including my lathe.

My lathe is a Keighley lifts/Denham junior mk2 lathe. I've never seen one for sale so not sure how much it's worth. I haven't used it much only made a few spacers. I bought it from an old chap who used it to make steam engines. It has loads of parts to go with it, some of which im not sure even do or used!

I bought it for £350, is it worth more or less?

Very nice lathe, I would pay £700 for one that good.
However....... If you were my apprentice I would kick you from one end of the workshop to the other for leaving the chuck-key in the chuck, one day that will take your teeth out.

The fact that you got it for 350 makes me very happy!

I would really like to get a lathe and I was under the impression (not sure why) that it was a grand or more for a 2nd hand ancient model!

Where did you pick up a fine bit of kit like that? Even 700 sounds like a good bargain!

You got a real bargain with that lathe.

If I were selling that I'd put the bare lathe up with some tooling and the 3-jaw and faceplate for the money you paid. The rest I'd sell separately.

The 4-jaw is worth a few quid especially if it's backplate mounting and if you have the soft jaws. 4-jaws of that size are sought after I'd give 70 quid for that if it's not bell-mouthed and consider it a bargain.

The large faceplate-type 4-jaw will sell separately too but oyu'd have to list the lathe nose thread so people know what it will fit.

The vertical slide looks like a nice one and quite chunky so another 50 quid there.

You have a lot of extra tooling, revolving centers etc should get £15 each, that spare cross-slide will get good money if you put the sizes in the advert in fact I know a guy who has a ML4 with no slide.

p.s. I'd kick your arse for that chuck key left in the chuck too

I don't normally leave the key in it. I was cleaning it for the photos so opened the jaws up, then closed them. The thing isn't even bloody plugged in for that reason!
It's in bloody good condition for it's age. I've made a few bits n pieces but never used it to it's full, which is a shame.

I think the old chap had a heart problem and couldn't stand up for long so sold it incase he fell onto it! I saw it in a local ad just up as "lathe for sale".

Well the comments seem good so far. If anyone knows or wants it for a good price? It lives in Sandhurst, Berkshire.

Hi Chaps, You can see these lathes go on Ebay from about £350 up to a mint example of £900.

I have had one of these for around 10 years and its been lots of fun.

Would you consider selling the 4 jaw chuck, large face plate and the change gears ?

I had my arse kicked recently for leaving the key in! Bad times, i'm good at remembering it on the old CNC, fuck that for a laugh!

Although about 4 weeks back i left the chuck key in the manual vertical borer, 60 inch chuck, spun it and got the key lodged against the back guard. An angle grinder and 2 hours later, chuck key removed! Never again!
