Now dont get me wrong, i'm not massively experienced on 2 wheels, but like to think of myself as competent on 4 or more (car and cat2 wagon licences held), however nothing could prepare me for this afternoon . . . . . . . . . .
having only owned my bike for 4 months, it's been sat in a garage waiting for some minor fixes that I never got round to. Anyway, fixes done, i thought i'd take it out for a ride over the tops. Riding down a NSL road, i opened the throttle and got up some speed only to be promptly twatted by the mother of all side winds! In the moment of panic I leaned back and inadvertantly opened the throttle more! Panic ensued and I did wonder for a second whether my waterproofs wold let fluid OUT down the bottom if I did the unthinkable and actually shat myself I did take a different route home though, just in case the winds decided to sneak up on me again
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and I suppose it's not that serious, but it's made me giggle, so I thought I'd pass it on.
(and just for the record, I didn't have to find out if fluids can get out )
I'm sure there's more stories out there, so if anyone wants to share, at least it will make me feel better

So what will you do next time?
Otherwise this post is just a giggle and nowt else.
Not being arsey...just interested if you know what to do.
[EDIT] Tell yer what i do. Grip tank with knees and countersteer into wind slightly, and if need be slow down..again nothing to abrupt as once riding snake pass i was gripping tight and heavy countesteering then the wind changed and i nearly shot off the road One of the reasons why i want a larger(heavier) bike.

When my very light CG gets up to 60MPH any amount of wind at all steers it for me. Like pat said, you simply learn to react and correct it, firstly when the wind hits and secondly when it stops you have to return to your original direction. It's normally very fun riding out there in the winds ____________________ will never give up his CG. I look at my fuel gauge more as a progress bar than a fuel gauge.

ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston? |

The main bit of advice i can give you for when u are riding in windy conditions is to be relaxed and lean into the wind slightly.
just go with the flow baby. |

I don't get on well on the bike in the wind either, but being really lightweight doesn't help, I feel much better if I'm loaded up with my camping gear and panniers if faced with unpredictable weather. ____________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind - Dr. Seuss |
