Just wondering, car parks such as park and ride ones, are they meant to be gritted in poor conditions?

I have heard that some places wont grit, because if they do, and someone falls over or has an accident they can be sued, whereas leaving it is just mother nature- is that corrent?

You wish they had made an effort to make the surface less slippery, so when you lost your balance you can get money out of them!?!

Not true.

This was raised in the media after all the snow over xmas.

They have a duty of care to ensure that its safe. So even not gritting can leave them open to being sued..... Just the same as if they tried to clear it and made it worse.

Then again they can simply argue that YOU should have taken more care as you could see it was slippery.

I work for an FM company that deals with gritting. Basically, if its private land that public use then it should be gritted, however due to shortages they can get away with gritting by using sharp sand, also gritting is only affective above a certain temperature and requires movement for it to work eg. cars driving over it. So if its like -3-4 it wont work so they don't bother.
