Until people snap and start rioting, preferably crushing a few parliamentry skulls along the way. The G20 protests were a small taste of the general feeling eminating through society at present. Sadly, a general election is looming, and if the Torys get into power then the general public will foolishly believe that this might provoke some form of change, thus delaying the inevitable backlash of society for a good 8 few years yet.

Agreed as long as people won't stand up and be counted and openly affect change (torches, pitch forks and rope) nothing will change. You don't have to win or lose it is the act of defiance that is the kicker.

Students did this in China in 1989, it was a blood bath as it would be here, the government forces 'won' but this gave the kick in the pants to the government to affect change. They abandoned socialist principles and moved to corporationism.

Well I think MP's with his attitude should be made to take part in things like this... https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/reviews/last-nights-television--coronation-street-itv1-tower-block-of-commons-channel-4-1886136.html

That will teach him some humility, and introduce him to a cross section of people he is supposedly representing.

Have you ever tried working on a normal train carriage full of screaming kids? You can't, you're too busy working out how to open the windows so you can chuck the little bastards out of it.

This is a bit of the witch hunt I really don't agree with. In just about any large company you go by first class rail if you're middle management or above. I used to travel first class on the Eurostar, when I was 24. It ended up costing my employer the same overall, seeing as I was getting fed and could work, so I wasn't claiming for a meal or working two hours in the evening.

This is taking it all too far into the realm of politics again though. Stopping the MPs from taking the piss on expenses is fine. Extending the clampdown to an extent where it can significant affect their productivity whilst producing an insignificant saving is silly.

While I agree with the principle of what you're saying Robby, they don't do any work worth doing so they'll be just as effective sat in the cattle cart.

He added: "They are a totally different type of people.

"There's lots of children, there's noise, there's activity. I like to have peace and quiet when I'm travelling."

If you read the whole quote its pretty much along the line of what robby said admittedly he could have worded it better but on the whole i agree sort of, as long as they are working while travelling then fine on a long journey then, fine they should use first class.

I had to get the train to the airport the other week and had to sit about three seat away from a grandma and 4 year granddaughter and all she did was chatter and moan for the who trip, had i some work to do then I think I would have strangled themboth Twisted Evil

Yes but you can't really class things like getting a viewing for that 5th home or fixing a date for the new conservatory to be built, all at the taxpayers expense, work can you?

Besides, it's probably best they don't do any work, since when has anything an MP or politician done been in the favour of anyone but themselves or for some hidden agenda? Maybe if a certain MP had been in a carriage full of screaming kids then £20k+ might not have been spent on a statue to out outside an NHS hospital to 'cheer people up', whereas that sAme money spent on someones can er treatment would have cheered quite a few people up no end I'm sure.

You know he didn't say what he really thought. He was a bellend for saying that anyway, but i think we all know what he really thinks.

Hi

Afraid although I have a pretty low opinion of politicians I agree with Robby. Train travel in rush times is pretty hideous and trying to get any work done when you are lucky to get a seat is going to be pretty impossible.

Bigger question is why despite massive subsidies are the railways so hideously expensive for any ticket bought at short notice, and 1st class so much worse. Quick look on the Virgin site and it shows 2nd class being £132 for a 17:00 departure from Kings Cross to Macclesfield (which is silly money for bulk transport) and £183.50 for 1st class.

All the best

Keith

Having had cause to use the train and finding myself sat opposite a fat Glaswegian who started to eat a peach (possibly the most messy fruit you could decide to eat in public mere inches from a perfect strangers horrified face,) afterwards crunching his way through a back of McCoys (chilli flavour) crisps and for the finale; slurping a freshly prepared vodka & lemonade(purchased from the trolley...)

I have to agree with the politician, people who sit in standard class are horrible and should be avoided when ever possible, even if you have no work to do and just don't want your nostrils to be invaded by the malodorous stench from that inevitable individual who has no concept of cleanliness and invariably find his or her way to the seat next to you.

He is more than welcome to sit in first class, provided he pays the surplus for first class out of his own pocket. His travel comes under expenses because it's purpose is to get him to work and back home, not to act as a mobile office. Fuck me, keep that up and next thing you know they will insist on private jets with adequate office space and room for his secretary too.

Shifty Embarassed Embarassed

When I used to travel back to Glasgow from Aberdeen on the train, I'd always have 4 cans of Strongbow and 4 cans of Tennents Super in a blue plastic bag (usually purchased from Aitchies after 4 pints and a few whiskies). Not only would nobody talk to me but I'd almost always have a table for 4 to myself with plenty of space to stretch out in Thumbs Up
I dont know if you still can but I used to be able to get a 1st class ticket for an extra £1 on a Saturday on the occasions that I was late home. Every single time some twat in a suit would ask the conductor to have me moved or re-check my ticket Laughing I loved making them feel uncomfortable Laughing I would never be loud or threating, they just seemed to object to me drinking on the train for some reason. I used to even offer them a can from my stash, thats fairly friendly considering the price from the trolly Confused
