found one just in my price range.
Basically its a 56plate so the newer model however it has done over 9,000 miles. I know that 2 strokes like the ones used in the rs50 and 125 need rebuilds after a while. If anyone knows the mileage that this bike generally needs an engine rebuild at it would be great if u could tell me.
Also it is derestricted and i just want to know how likely it is for me to be caught if i keep to the speedlimits and only use the speed on roads where i need to, to be honest with common sense surely it would be wiser for riders to be able to keep up with the flow of traffic but anyway. Also, does anyone know what the penalty is for riding a derestricted 50 at 16 is
Thanks.

AFAIK the penalty is riding without a license, plus riding without insurance soo that's 12points? 6 each. Your license can do 6. That's the extreme I guess, and the chance of you getting caught is very low.

Rebuild is every 10,000km IIRC.

There is very little chance of getting caught if its derestricted. In my year i had a derestricted Rs50 and a Tzr50 with a 70cc big bore kit.
Never got caught/stopped.

thanks for the replys guys. Basically, 12 points as you said is extreme and probably only applies for people driving cars without a liscence and insurance, whereas i will have insurance but if its derestricted it is void whereas its hardly as if i would have no insurance, which is the worst case of scenarios and i will have a cbt so its hardly being not qualified to ride it. All it is is a few more horsepower over the limit which to be honest, think is a lot safer and anyway i hear most police are none the wiser and most don't even know the law exists, and wouldnt an rs50 look more like a 125 or are police informed of geared road 50's? DO police stop more scooters than geared bikes? Do they do random stops at all?

Does anyone know if there is a benchmark penalty for riding a derestricted 50 or is it the same as driving without a liscence?

Does anyone know anyone who has ever been caught?

I only want a bike to get around as i want to go where i want when i want without my parents calling themselves "my taxi" and i want it faster than 30 because otherwise I think its pointless!!!!

Im not going to show off and i will keep to the limits as i don't want to draw any attention to myself and i would like to keep my liscence as i want a car when i'm 17 and a bike aswell later if i have enough money Wink and i know that if you get banned especially in the early days of someones riding or driving days then the insurance for a car or bike would be very very high making it almost impossible to afford. This is why i want to be sure that the likelyhood of being caught is almost 0 and the punishment if i am the unlucky one and any of your opnions on what to do if you were in my shoes would be appreciated Smile

Thanks again.

If you just want it to get around, i would get a 4 stroke 50, not 2 stroke, use a lot less fuel, be far cheaper to run.

You will also be lucky to hit 30mph and will have to avoid hills.

They'll do about 40mph as long as you arent a big guy, and im talking Chinese POS's, i've seen them do it.

Hills are slightly worse, but then even a 2 stroke 50 struggles,

Thanks for all the replies guys.
Basically I know its unlikely and so on but I think i've decided to probably wait it out for another year becasue i don't want to be going around at 30mph and don't really fancy a ban because prices for young people to insure cars and bikes are bad enough without convictions! Shame though because it means another year of busses and the so called "parent taxi service" as my mum and dad like to call it :/ but when im 17 i should be gettting a car and maybe an rs125 if i can save up that much! Doubt it tho but in the near future money permitting I will definately be buying one because I can use uni as and excuse to do a bike test and sell my car for a couple of years Wink

Once again, thanks for the advice, much appreciated Smile

Aprilia list to "check and adjust" the piston rings at 8000km / 5000 miles, and replace at 16000km / 10000 miles in their workshop manual.

That said replacement top ends for the engine used in the RS50 cost peanuts.

All the best

Keith
