At first I thought kawasaki made a vn125, but googling tells me differently! No-one on this forum would recommend a chinese bike, apart from maybe the ones who say something truly inspiring like "Chinese bikes aren't all as bad as they get reputation for! My one has lasted 1000 miles since new without breaking." Even that is rare to hear.
If you like cruiser style and are restricted to 125, get a second hand Suzuki GZ, Honda VT (if you can find one for cheap) or the rarer (in UK) Yamaha XV/S. All reliable bikes from what I hear, just watch for rust on the Suzuki. ____________________ Current Bikes: Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 (2020)
Former Bikes: Honda MSX125 (2014), BMW Funduro (1996), Honda VT500 (1983), Yamaha FZR250 (1989), Suzuki GZ125 Marauder(2005),:Triumph TT600 (2002) (stolen)
From then on, I and the bicycle feelings deeper. |

Hello. If you can be bothered to dig it up, there is a thread about the Vulcan 125 on here from around 2005 someplace. I first found this forum doing a search for info on it. The red one in the photo above is my old one.
I owned one, I rode it from Bedford to Portsmouth for example. I owned it from new. After one winter, the finish on it was worse than a 30 year old Honda that had been left to rot in a shed for a time.
There were too many shortcuts in the production. The plastic gear casing fell off, because the screws were too short and vibrated out. The same thing happened with the back light cover. The fuel guage broke after about a week. The side panels were flimsy, the plastic lugs snapped on both of them. You can see in the picture where I had to tape them on whilst I waited for the glue to dry. The chrome was about one micron thick, and a lot of it disappeared mid-winter.
The engine was okay, it never refused to start, and was actually quite nice to ride. The general advice in the original thread was don't buy one, buy a used Honda, and I think that was good advice.
I did actually like the bike though and enjoyed riding it. Moved onwards and upwards pretty quickly though. Seeing as I was the first owner and it was expensive for what it was, I wonder quickly it deteriorated after I parted with it, pretty quickly I should think. |
