Last week my gs125 engine dropped a valve.

So I figured it would be easier faster and cheaper to drop a second hand engine in.

I picked up this beast with only 1500 miles on the clock off ebay for £130 for an 07 bike.

Today I removed the engine from the frame.

Somehow need to get this out ready for the new engine which is being picked up tomorrow.

Try getting that bolt out with a set of vice grips.

£130 for that engine seems like a bargain Thumbs Up

I have tried that, no luck. Just slips and pops off.

I think it will be a hacksaw jobby but the fact the walls of the bolt head are quite thin, means when I lever a screwdriver in there, it may snap which would be a ball ache.

Aren't you just trying to salvage the exhaust and its flange? If so, surely just drilling the head off is the best option and then go on to fit it to the new engine with shiny new bolts.

Whilst this is true, I would rather not damage anything. Just because I don't like smashing things to bits to find I need them later. I know the head is probably a write off but who knows.

I was contemplating in the long term, finding a donor engine for very cheap and making one good engine for a project etc

Well, tbh, If you drill the head off, just to the point it allows the flange to be removed, you'll still be left with a decent bit of thread emerging from the cylinder head after the exhaust is out of the way and it'll be a darn site easier to get out (with mole grips, etc.) then.

Yeah I'd be getting penetrating oil, heat and mole grips on that exhaust bolt.

If you can't do it, get someone stronger to get the grips on there MEGA tight, and I woulda thought it'd just wind out.

Failing that, as suggested, drill the head off, then hopefully you'll be able to get the stud out with grips (heat from drilling might sort it).
Engine seems like a bargain.

Engine in, mounting points were fine, wiring seems ok although I am yet to fully test.

It turns over and sparks though. Lights have gone funky aswell. Need to sort them out. Gear indicator no longer works but I expected that. After all this fiddling with oily hands, it will need a degrease and pressure wash.

Here it is as it was at midday today. More stuff is connected now and I am awaiting some oil before I can test.
Small issue with carb being different size and airbox won't work, may have to opt for pod filter or similar.

New engine in and runs fine. Very smooth compared to old one.

Next job, top speed run in the light.

Four Riders of the Appoloclypse, perhaps?
Which will it be?
Pestilence...... Terminal Electrical Gremlins
Famine.....Severe carburation issues
Flood.... anything involving fluids.... like, whats that black stuff your supposed to put in the engine called again?
Death..... anything aproaching an imitation of a hand-grenade.

So what teething issues did you have? Did the airbox fit? Gear indicator work etc etc?

Or does it all work perfectly like the last engine didn't?

Well the actual engine fitted fine. Bit of hassle due to bits of crap in the mounting brackets and stuff but it shows Suzuki don't update their design very often!

Airbox didn't fit properly no. The newer engine seems to have a much larger head. It fits in fine, it just seems much bigger and the carb sits further back and at a slight angle which means it needed bodgery but it works. The carb for an en125 is different because the inlet manifold was different and I had to swap them over.

Gear indicator works now. Neutral light doesn't but I think that is because one of the connectors is different to the old engine and I haven't bothered to cut them up and join them.

Overall it seems to be fine. Pretty much a straight swap.

So you want it to last for a while so............. GIVE IT TO ME Smile

This one will be looked after. Half term off college in a week and it will be stripped down, cleaned, painted and any metal exposed will be protected.

This has to last till I somehow achieve more monies.
