Hi guys,

I'm planning on restoring my 1992 Sintesi. I've got a query relating to the Ignition Wires. The loom fitted currently has 4 wires from a knackered ignition. I need to replace it. However, All the ignitions I've seen have 5 wires, 4 on a connector & a seperate red/white connector.

The picture shows the bottom of the knackered ignition, with another ignition from an AF1 of the same age ( with the red key in). The loom on the bike only has provision for 4 wires. The engine is a Rotax 123.

What are your thoughts?

Hi

If it is a Sintesi then it then it isn't a 1992 bike. I assume it is an import as the years they get recorded as being first registered are pretty random.

Later bikes (Futuras / RS125) had the 4 wire ignition switches. The early bikes like the AF1 and the AF1 Sintesi had 6 wire ignitions.

The 6 wires should be white / red, blue, orange, green, yellow / black and yellow.

All the best

Keith

Cheers Keith,

Managed to source the RS igniton which is exactly what i need. Included a photo, probably supports your "its gonna be an import" theory.....

Not suer if you can make it out in the photo, its got the arrow exhaust with a stock air filter and 28mm carb... can anyone suggest whether I would need to change the standard set up to accomodate the end can ?????

thanks

George

Hi

Looks like a 1989 model (or it did, swear there was a picture there a minute ago).

Checking a few more wiring diagrams it looks like I was wrong and when they went from the early Sintesi with the pneumatic power valve to the later type (like yours) with the electronically controlled power valve they changed the wiring to the ignition switch. Looks like the RS ignition switch is the same.

As to the can, probably not much needed. Might be worth going up a size in main jet to be on the safe side.

All the best

Keith
