throw-over panniers/ saddlebags!

i`m sure this has been done before, but hey ho!

can anybody recomend a decent set of throw-over panniers at a resonable price that will be suitable for a smaller bike??

i am planning a trip out with my little CG (when i finally get it) this summer and want to take some basic kit with me.
i will use the pillion seat and tank bag if i need to but panniers are good as well.
come to think of it what about tank-bags for smaller bikes???

what do you know people??? Smile

That's from J&S - don't know if they have them in-store.

Have a look at Kriega:

They made very good quality, properly waterproof kit. Tailpacks are very good, also the "tank" converter lets you use a tailpack (probably a us-10 for you) as a tankbag.
For me the big advantage of these is waterproofing without stopping to put a cover on (with the panniers, just leave the covers on).

I've had the Oxford 'First time' throwovers for about three years and used them a fair bit on big bikes and small. Seem quite well made and cost £45 in Argos. Not waterproof so some minature rollbags from a camping shop, or indeed bin bags are required to keep your stuff dry. They are expandable too, but I have rarely done so.

Uncanny!! I use the waterproof Ortlieb bags and was unaware that they did panniers, until sat at some traffic lights alongside a bike today checking out his kit Embarassed Yep, Ortlieb panniers - looking good!! Thumbs Up

For offroad kit, I'm buying the Kriega gear bit by bit, as it's not cheap, but everyone I've spoken with says I'll only ever need to buy it once, so seems to be worth the investment.
