Weird noise from dt230

My DT230 (2 stroke) has started to make a weird noise from the the bottom end. It is an intermitant clunking kind of sound.
You notice it when your riding on a steady throttle and especially when its cold. Almost like something is slapping around.
Could I have done a crank bearing? The bike still has heaps of power and runs smoothly on the gas. And like I said, it seems to come and go. Nothing has changed except this noise.
If it is this how long have I got before it lets go?
