 |
|
Getting a bit hacked off with increasing utility bills so dug out some old paper bills from a couple of years ago.
Though the costs have gone up 2p/unit electrical since 2007, this works out at about £25/1000 units. So it isn't that which is making an impact.
Seems we are using double the units than what we were 2 years ago for a similar quarter.
Assuming a unit is a unit (a direct conversion from a kwh) and they haven't changed it.
Then I want to know how we are possibly using double given that the house is the same, and the appliances have only been upgraded if at all to more supposedly energy efficient ones.
Anyone had any success with these meters which read current consumption in the house?
Could anyone recommend a model?

Hi
We have a Current Cost one:-
https://www.currentcost.com/
Basic one that we got free through someone Charlotte works with. Works very well and is a doddle to set up.
Originally got it as my fathers electric bills were pretty silly. It found the problem (night storage heaters installed incorrectly and running on peak time supplies).
You might be able to get one free from your electric supplier (some suppliers give them out free, can't remember which though).
It is pretty easy for consumption to increase as some things eat power (fan heaters for example). Generally peoples consumption increases year on year (a certain percentage was assumed when calculating estimated consumption).
All the best

Looked at a couple yesterday but as usual I will have to dither for quite a long time before I think about making a decision. There are a few reviews on this site:-

I currently pay £60 a month for gas & electric yet despite the long cold winter we seem to be having my account is in credit & my suppliers keep trying to reduce my payment. We had a new combi boiler fitted in april which seems to use a fraction of the gas the old one did, although that wasn't exactly old, it was under 10 year old.
I dont know if theres any point to getting a smart meter to monitor what we use i dont know if we could make much of a saving. all our lightbulbs are energy saving, my hard drive recorder is low consumption & i've just replaced my 21" ctr tv (dont laugh ) with a low consumption 26" lcd. |
