That looks suspiciously fecked to me... And what the bloody hell is that burning smell?? Thinking

That'll be the speedo sensor being eaten alive by the front sprocket retaining bolt / collar flailing around like some medieval weapon then. Ho-hum.

Yes folks, that's supposed to be tight. Not loose. Only found it because the speedo was going nuts and there was a faint whiff of burning plastic. When I removed the broken cover it was carnage!

I guess this is why we should really check our bikes over every now and then, especially the workhorses that we often take for granted after a hard winter. The chain and sprockets are over 10k miles old, no previous noises or wear reported. The bike itself is approaching 50k miles. Used daily. Soon after this was fixed I noticed the header bolts were loose.

Must invest in some locking compound. Mr. Green

Anyone else have similar stories?

G: With my GSXR I do often effectively use it as a scooter with a clutch in town.
ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston?

Your engine won't run without at least two holes to the outside world Laughing Besides, that hole isn't in his engine.

I have 2 M6's that hold either side of the retainer plate to the sprocket.

I've seen that happen before. Don't use red loctite on it and be stingy with the blue. They can be a complete cowson to remove!

Aye, used a drop of blue on each one. I rounded off the one of the previous bolts that was stuck, but managed to get it off with an Irwin Bolt Grip socket. Top bit of kit, worked first time where nothing else I tried did (mole grips, hammering, etc). Thumbs Up
